Is it ‘Foul’ water or ‘Surface’ water? grey water also known as waste water refers to the waste water from baths, sinks, and showers. This water is still clean to some extent. It is Foul water. 2. If used within 24hours of collection, what can it be used for? If used within 24 hours the grey water can be used for flushing toilets and also can really be good for plants and the garden as it contains a lot of nutrients that plants use and need. 3. What does grey water contain that makes it potentially harmful for humans? Grey water that is untreated contains a lot of harmful bacteria that can be harmful to humans if not treated beforehand. For example if used in a sprinkler to water grass then it could to lead to many airborne viruses. 4. What do you have to do if you want to use it after 24hours or anything other than you stated in Q2 above? What happens to the grey water between the holding tank and the re-use/service tank? It cannot be used for indoor plants as the bacteria will still be there and can result in airborne bacteria’s and viruses within the house so it is safer to juse use it for outdoor plants Consider what water is used for in your house, what use would you want it to be extremely thoroughly treated before you did this? Currently its already thoroughly treated for this by Yorkshire Water! 7. Where should it NEVER be collected from within a house? Should never be collected from water that is produced from toilet water as that will pose many health risks. 8. What are the 3 KEY component parts of a grey water recycling system? Grey water from showers or baths is then piped to a Surge tank where it is held there for a short period of time before being discharged to a treatment system. 9. Are there any cons to installing these systems? Why hasn’t every house got one? It poses many health risks if not maintained properly, it is also very costly to have a grey recycling water in your house that’s the main reason not every house has one.
