Photosynthesis
What do you think life would be like if plants did not make
their own food?
Photosynthesis is necessary for life on Earth.
Humans and animals require oxygen to live. Oxygen comes
into the atmosphere as a result of photosynthesis, and
oxygen is in the air we breathe.
All living things benefit from photosynthesis. Plants use
photosynthesis to make the food they need to live and grow.
Animals either eat plants to obtain energy or eat other
animals that ate plants. Energy moves from the Sun, to
plants, to animals. Photosynthesis is necessary for that
energy flow.
Humans and
animals need
oxygen to survive.
Plant leaves absorb energy from the Sun
to make food. The leaves provide food for
animals to eat, and plants give off oxygen
that we breathe.
