Scholarly Activity Overview The scholarly activity attended was a seminar on how to improve the quality of care at the hospital. The target market for the seminar comprised of patients and their families, local communities, and society as a whole. Patients are at the receiving end of medical services offered at the hospital thus the seminar was conducted to craft ways of improving the quality of care they get at the medical facility. Other people that are expected to benefit from the seminar are doctors, medical practitioners, and the entire hospital staff. The main significance of the seminar was that the hospital analyzed the target market thus the management will know the future needs of the patients (Labrague et al., 2020). This way, they will create better strategies of management to improve profitability. Patients will benefit from the seminar since there will be fewer cases of information asymmetry between the doctors and the patients. Because they will have perfect knowledge about the healthcare services they purchase, patients will get instant medical interventions and will not be overcharged at the hospital. Problem The main problems facing the health facility are lack of opportunities for career advancement, heavy workload due to fewer nurses, poor salaries and remunerations, poor organization, insufficient mentoring, and limited time with the patients (Mahran et al., 2017). Currently, many nurses are not properly trained on how to deal with the above challenges. Patients are the most affected since they get poor services. The hospital is equally affected since it gets a poor reputation by offering low-quality care. Nurses are set to gain a lot from the seminar. During the seminar, they got trained on the emerging issues in healthcare and how to adjust to the changing trends. The seminar was equally significant in encouraging healthcare employers to create better work environments. Employers were advised to employ more nurses to reduce workload, give better salaries, properly organize healthcare centers, and provide mentorship to patients. Solution The problems identified in the previous section can be solved through several interventions: Lack of opportunities for career development: Nurses can be given opportunities for career advancement by providing certifications for all nursing specialists (Eines & Vatne, 2018). This way, nurses will become board-certified thus will get extra compensation. Joining shared governance committees is another way of promoting nursing career development. Through the shared governance, nurses will corporate to effect best practices at the hospital. Heavy workload: Employing extra nurses can serve to relieve the medical professionals from the heavy work burden. Work should be scheduled to avoid laxity. Nurses should be made to work in shifts such that when one group is on duty, the other takes a break. Poor salaries: The hospital management ought to give compensation on an equitable basis. Nurses with better work experience should get extra salaries to encourage them in their job. Nurses who go for night routines should be considered by giving extra salaries (Eines & Vatne, 2018). Other groups of nurses that ought to be given extra compensation packages are those who work in critical centers, those with additional certifications, and those who form part of the management team such as charge nurses and shift leaders. Poor organization: The organizational culture at the hospital can be improved by strategies such as ensuring that the records are up to date, reducing staff turnover, establishing an effective care team, and carrying out evaluations at the departments before layoffs. Insufficient mentorship: The hospital management should strive to ensure that nurses are given better mentorship. This can be achieved by initiating mentorship programs at the hospital. Limited time with the patients: Employing more nurses and giving extra remunerations are effective in ensuring that nurses spend more time with the patients. Opportunity The main opportunity that the seminar aims to harness is improving the quality of care it offers to the public. Apart from the strategies discussed above, it was agreed that the hospital will design measures of ensuring timely communication with the patients. It was agreed that an app would be developed to enable patients to access services anytime, anywhere. From the seminar, the hospital agreed to roll out home-based care to enable vulnerable groups such as senior citizens to get quality care. The objectives and goals of the seminar were in line with those of the hospital. The objectives of the seminar were to ensure that the hospital provides safe and quality care, foster competent healthcare workers and promote the development of community health (Farouk et al., 2020). All these objectives are designed to help the facility meet its goal of improving patient outcomes through the provision of quality care. The seminar is instrumental in helping participants grow in their nursing careers. The teachings of the seminar are important in enabling nurses to learn new developments in the nursing industry. This way, they will be updated on new techniques thus will become successful in their careers. Program Competencies Addressed The following program competencies were addressed in the seminar: Ability to understand other people by the application of knowledge and creation of intrapersonal relationships. Ability to offer care centered on people by the provision of care, promoting ethical practice, and collaborating with other professionals in the healthcare industry. The ability to improve the quality of nursing services by increasing the professional capacity and ensuring the provision of quality care. References Labrague, L. J., De los Santos, J. A.
