Beowulf's Shield Project
In the Anglo-Saxon era, individual tribes were identified by their armor and
clothing As they were used on the battlefield to identify a person’s friends and
foes. The symbols used on coats of arms were chosen carefully to represent
an individual or an entire family.
Design your own SHIELD
Create your own shield based on the Beowulf Text, Research of the
viking era, your personality, character and family. Research the
symbolism of colors, animals and shapes to decide which items
represent you.
Include the following information in your personal shield design.
1. A symbol / picture to represent the“tribe” you would fight for.
2. A symbol / picture to represent your strength in battle.
3. An animal that represents you / your tribe
4. Any other symbol or text that represents you.
5. Include a Personal Motto (words or a phrase that represent you or tribe)
written in RUNES at the top
