01.10 Macbeth: The Power of Words Worksheet Step 1: Character Interpretation Earlier in this lesson, you read two different interpretations of a scene featuring Lady Macbeth. You were asked to view a stage performance of the same scene in order to answer this question: How does the video interpretation compare to the interpretations from the lesson? In a response of at least five sentences (75-100 words), comment on the stage interpretation and explain your impression of Lady Macbeth in this scene. Use specific examples from the clip to support your answer. Things to consider include her facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice. Be sure to specifically reference the action in the clip to support your answer. Throughout the scene, it was a little difficult trying to figure out how to describe Lady Macbeth. Either she was very compassionate, and kind, or very scandalous and demanding. There were times where Lady Macbeth showed affection. For example, when she spoke to Macbeth. She was very loving and stroke on his arm and face while she told him the plan. As she is telling him the plan, she sounds nice and sweet, but is speaking evil to him. This makes her look more manipulative seeing as she is able to look and act nice but really have messy intentions. She knew how much Macbeth appeared to be trustworthy and loyal, so she made Macbeth do the deed since Duncan would not suspect anything. She is very manipulative and tricky, and uses “kindness and affection“ to get her evil deeds done Step 2: Setting Interpretation Choose one of the provided scenes from Macbeth that you have previously studied in this course and locate or create an image that shows a fitting setting for that scene. This should be a background or backdrop appropriate for the scene to take place in. In a response of at least five sentences (75-100 words), explain why you chose the image. Use examples from the play and the image to support your reasoning. Include the scene and the image along with your response. Be sure to cite the relevant lines of the play to support your answer. I chose this picture from roundhayenglish.weebly.com because it represents Act IV, Scene I very well. When the play described this part, it was described as the 3 witches in the back brewing something in a pot in front of Macbeth. Macbeth doesn’t see himself as the same with what the witches showed him. The images he was saw were actually from the witches, but Macbeth thought it was just his mind playing tricks on him like it did when he became paranoid from Banqou
