1 Leon Norfleet AP Language & Composition Period 1 April 3, 2020 Professor Brickley Freshman Personal Insight Questions 2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side. I express my creative side by trying to come up with unique and different solutions in order to solve problems. To me, creativity means the ability to create or do something in a way that has not been done before. By doing so, I believe that you are able to surpass your limits and learn where your own strengths truly lie. I believe that I have the creative ability to see when there is a unique way to do something that has never been attempted and may improve something. An example of this occurred in my AP Computer Science class. We were learning about arrays at the time and the way the lessons work is that we complete them one at a time on a program language learning website. But, in order to try to learn more I often reprogram the entire lesson code in order to have a deeper understanding of how it works and to also discover different ways to efficiently recreate the program. 3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time? 2 I would say that my greatest skill is being able to teach myself. To elaborate, I am able to adapt and learn different things usually without much trouble because I try to truly understand the subject by picking it apart and learning how it works. I believe that I was able to find this skill because when I was younger I was always curious as to how things worked, and wanted to try it. This skill allows me to take advantage of opportunities to learn more and get more experience in the things I'm interested in. For example, by being able to understand programming languages and how they work by taking it apart and teaching myself how to use this knowledge, I am able to take difficult computer science classes in order to learn more about programming. 6. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom. The academic subject that has always inspired me is science. It explains how and why the world works. Science inspired me because through experiments and research you can use information and diligence to make sense of something you would otherwise not be able to. When I was younger, I would always try to do science experiments and read books about scientific information in order to know more. I furthered my interest by trying to gain more and more information through research and reading. When I was in middle school, I participated in scientific competitions and decathlons to challenge myself and my knowledge of science. 7. What have you done to make your school or your community a better place? One thing I have done to make my school a better place is join the Key Club. It is a community service club that prioritizes cleaning up and helping community parks, as well as running and 3 supporting fundraising events to help support its school. I joined the club because I felt I could do more and be more active as well as try to influence change for the better for the school in some way. My actions benefited others in many ways, such as when I cleaned parks and donated to organizations that helped people in worse situations. These acts were done together with a group, and through cooperation with them I feel as though we really enacted change in our community.
