Individual Task: Mini-project
Students taking the course “Project Monitoring and Evaluation” are required to demonstrate
their understanding of the theory and methods of M&E by selecting a certain social and/or
economic problem and developing an initiative to address the problem through a project
intervention. The initiative should be real/not imaginary/ and should not be a copy of some
project currently under implementation by an organization.
The students have to initiate the project idea, and identify indicators and have to accomplish
the following tasks:
1. develop an outcomes assessment for the initiative,
2. work out the details of the intended outcome statement and key target outcomes,
3. develop an intended outcome statement for the initiative (this includes the target
beneficiaries, the activity to be carried out by the initiative, and the outcome expected),
4. Identify at least two indicators for program monitoring and two indicators for program
evaluation.
5. Determine key target outcomes for the initiative,
6. Place the inputs, outputs, outcomes and impacts, as well as Success indicators, and means
of verification of the initiative into a Logical Framework.
You can refer to the log-frame table used in the class discussion to brainstorm the project
design and desired changes (project goals), assumptions and indicators.
The mini-project document should not exceed 5 pages (all inclusive) and should at least
include the following contents:
an overview of the project,
rationale of the project,
summary of top three activities, and
M&E plan and log-frame tables.
The text should be written in Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 spacing, justified, fully
edited and proof-read for any spelling and grammatical errors.
