Beauty Varies between Culture
As the famous saying goes “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” meaning beauty
is a very subjective matter. Hence, we can observe how different cultures project
beauty.
Egyptian Idea of Beauty
In ancient egypt, beauty with regard to
women are depicted as someone who
has slim waist, dark colored hair a
tanned skin and wearing a wig as
symbol of authority and majesty
Greek Idea of Beauty
In Ancient Greece, their concept of beauty includes a thick
eyebrow, some women even used some dark pigments in
order to emphasize the thick color of their eyebrow.
They would also use wigs for the reason that in such times
women are bleaching their hairs with vinegar which causes
hair loss. Hence, a curly and long hair were ideal in such
times because the rationale is only rich person/people can
have a long hair
Heian Japan’s Concept of Beauty
In Heian Japan, beauty is being associated with a very long
hair, women in such time even wants their hair to be so long
that it is already touching the floor.
They also wanted a shaved eyebrows and replacing it with an
ink or a smudgy one matched with their pale skin, round and
rosy cheeks.
Beauty Changes in Time
It is an undisputed fact that we are in a series of a constant change and the
perception of persons also change. In relation to that, it is also factual to say that
even the idea of beauty changes as it may be with how people dress, or how
people grooms their hair etc…
In the following slides, I will share to you how the idea of beauty in certain aspect
of people’s life evidenlty changes.
Changes in Men’s Formal Wear
In the photo, we can see how the formal
wears of men change thru time. We can see
that the design also changes e.g (from plain to
stripes). The fitting of the coats and pants and
many others.
Changes in design of Houses
The Changes in Houses as seen in
the picture as to the construction, as
to the color , as to the number of
floors and even as to design itself
can reflect the changes of beauty in
such aspect. It reflects the need of
the people living in such times.
Changes in Make-up
In the picture, it reflects how the
make up trends, during such time
changes as to the color, the
shade, as to the stroke and other
factors. It also reflects the culture
and trends during such time.
