Introduction
What You See is What You Get
It’s a 1971 classic soul song by the Dramatics, also known as “Whatcha See is Whatcha Get.” It’s also
part of multimedia and graphics glossary. The acronym WYSIWYG (pronounced "wiz-ee-wig") is a
program that allows a developer to see the end result while the interface or document is being created.
More importantly, it’s the truth. Suppose you place a blindfold over your eyes and walk around.
What happens? You go in circles. You wander. You have no direction. Why? You saw nothing in front
of you. Therefore you could not get anything. What you see is what you get.
Now, suppose you take the blindfold off and touch the wall in your room. You see a goal and are
able to complete the assignment. Why? What you see is what you get.
Hence the power of vision.
See It! Say It! Seize It!
In Numbers 13, Moses sent out twelve spies to explore the
Canaan land that God was giving to the Israelites. A spy named
Caleb from the tribe of Judah saw the land (see it) and brought
back a good report (say it). He said, “Let’s go now and take
possession of the land. We should be more than able to conquer it.”
(seize it)
The vision seized Caleb. It got into his head through his eyes and
into his heart. He began to feel what he had seen. Moses’ successor
Joshua saw Caleb’s commitment to the vision and gave Caleb the
land; Caleb seized what he said he saw.
Caleb is not alone in the pages of Scripture. Everyone goes
through these stages before their vision became realities.
Are you ready to bring your vision to life?
Then let’s get started.

Life Without Vision
The 2006 movie Failure to Launch depicted the misadventures of a 35-year-old man who still lived
with his parents, enjoying the comforts of home with no interest in leaving the nest. He seemingly
drifted through life with no vision for his future. Failure to launch is a very real inability, either from
desire or lack of preparation, to leave home and begin a journey toward a self-supported life. One main
symptom of this problem is a lack of vision. A life without vision is a life without destiny.
Life With Vision
As a young college student, Lucinda Cross made a bad choice that landed her in prison. Instead of
becoming another sad statistic, however, she learned from her mistake, took control of her life, and
built a better future for herself.
Today she is a bestselling author, entrepreneur, life coach, and speaker and who has been featured
on such prestigious media outlets as ABC, NBC, Black Enterprise, Essence Magazine and many more.
She attributes her success to vision boards and has literally built her business around them.
Cross empowers and motivates women to build businesses from their personal experiences.
She helps them lead lives of “fire, fun and freedom” just like hers.

The Power of Vision
Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others. - Jonathan Swift
The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
- Helen Keller
A man without a vision is a man without a future. A man without a future
will always return to his past. - P.K. Bernard
Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, but happy is he who
keeps the law.” - Proverbs 29:18
2 And
the Lord said to me, “Write my answer on a billboard,[a] large and
clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others.
3 But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely,
the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, [b] do
not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They
will not be overdue a single day! Habakkuk 2:2-3
Vision has a powerful impact on us. We move in the direction of what we see. We become what we
behold. Our vision is not merely our desires, wants, and wishes. It is what we see. It is our imagination
and our future.
We are not meant for the status quo. We are meant to soar.
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey once said, “Happiness is having something to look forward to.”
In my experience, I am most excited, joyful, energetic, and enthusiastic about life when I am working
toward a vision.
Many people want better lives but have no vision for them. They want things to change, but they
only see more of the same in their future. They live the same day over and over again.
God our Creator is very interested in our capacity for vision. In the Bible, God often asks people,
“What do you see?” Reading Scripture and other inspiring books enhances our capacity for vision and
moves us past our present limitations.
We will never go further than our vision. I have attempted new things that seemed risky at the time,
but I was daring enough to move in the direction of the new thing I had seen. I have not always been
successful, but I knew I didn’t want to keep doing the same thing and getting the same results.
If we want to change our lives, we must first change our vision. When the vision is clear, the results
will appear. What you see is what you get.

What Is a Vision Board?
A vision board is a tool we can use to help clarify, concentrate, and maintain focus on a specific life
goal. It is any sort of board on which we display images that represent:
-
Who we want to be,
What we want to do, and
What we want to have in life.
For the purposes of this guide, we want our vision boards to represent God’s dreams for our lives.
Below is an example of a prosperity vision board.
Why Create a Vision Board?

What we focus on expands. We often don’t notice cars on the road. But if we decide to buy a
blue 2018 Jaguar XE, suddenly we see that Jaguar “everywhere.” When it’s on our mind, we notice
it. A vision board has the same effect of picking out the Jaguar. When we get clear on God’s dreams
for our lives, opportunities pop up everywhere that are in alignment with these dreams.

Vision boards stretch our thinking. As we think in our hearts, so are we. Our hearts determine
what God can do for us. Suppose you want to travel to Australia for vacation. The first step to doing
that is to believe in your heart that you can. Then place a picture of Australia or some Australian
landmark on a sheet or board that you see and say every day. The more you see it and say it,
the more you become empowered to seize it!

Vision boards are fun to make. Reconnect with your inner child with this creative and
purposeful arts and crafts project. You can also gather a few friends together and throw a vision
board party!

Life is too short! I have been through a few near-death experiences. Time is precious. We must
take advantage of every moment. Why waste time when we can live out our dreams? We can break
down our dream into goals and actionable steps to accomplish them! Vision boards keep us on track
and help us see what we are striving to achieve.

The Three Steps Most People Miss When
Creating Vision Boards
There are three critical steps most people miss when creating their vision boards. These steps make
the difference between a vision that begins and ends with us and a vision that lives beyond us.
1. Talk to God about your vision. God has a dream for your life. It’s probably different from and
greater than the typical American dream of growing up, going to school, getting a good job,
making money, getting married, living in a nice house with a three-car garage, a picket fence and
2.5 kids, and retiring. These desires are not wrong in and of themselves, but His dream is not just
about us getting more. Having it all is not enough. We are made for more. When we get God’s dream
for us, then life makes sense. There is meaning, significance, satisfaction, purpose, value, and joy.
It becomes more than working to pay for all our stuff. In the Bible, the book of Habakkuk shares
how to get God’s dream for your life.
2 And
the Lord said to me, “Write my answer on a billboard,[a] large and
clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others.
3 But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely,
the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, [b] do
not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They
will not be overdue a single day! (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
A. Want to do God’s will more than anything else. It must be a necessity to us. God doesn’t
tell us His dream so we can debate it, discuss it, or think about it. It’s not optional. When we get
passionate and desperate, we will hear from God.
B. Get alone with God and wait to hear from Him. This is the most important thing we can
do. We were made to know God, not to mark things off our to-do list. God wants us to meet with
Him daily. He waits for us. When we wait on Him calmly, patiently, and expectantly, we renew
our strength. He talks to us when we take time to listen. This is the goal of prayer – hearing His
still, small voice. We must get still to hear it. With family demands, work, phones, e-mails,
headphones, elevator music, radio, traffic, etc, this step is usually challenging, but doable.
God wants to tell us wonderful things about us and our future. He cares about every single detail
of our lives. We never waste time when waiting on God.
C. Watch, write, and worship. God will often give us a mental picture, an idea, or a vision in
our minds to clarify our next step. We talk to ourselves in pictures all the time. For instance, if
someone says the word “apple,” we get a picture of an apple in our minds. God works the same
way. Once you hear from God, record ideas you receive from Him. Habakkuk wrote down clearly
what God revealed to him. Keep a spiritual journal so you can review and preserve it for future
generations. Finally, worship and thank God for speaking to you.
2. Involve other discerning people in getting confirmation about your vision. Test your
impressions with God’s people. Sometimes, other people can discern things about us that we may
miss. There is safety in a multitude of counsel (Proverbs 11:14). The wisdom of godly advisors can
help steer us in the right direction.
3. Take action! Show up, be open to and listen to God’s voice for guidance. Watch for opportunities
to move toward His dream for your life. God will partner with us to bring His vision for our lives to
pass. If we take one step toward His dream, He will take ten steps toward us. Take small steps.
For instance, if God shows you a picture of a healthier you, try a vegan recipe for dinner. If He gives
you an idea for a business, consider hiring a coach to help you fulfill your dreams.

How to Create Your Vision Board
You can create your board using a poster or corkboard, scissors, magazines or Google images, and
glue sticks. You may also include a picture of yourself on your board. With traditional vision boards,
you can make them as simple and elaborate as you like. You can use them as artwork or hang them in
your closet for your eyes only.
Or you can create a vision board online with programs such as Pinterest, DreamItAlive
(www.dreamitalive.com) or Make a Vision Board (www.makeavisionboard.com). With digital vision
boards, you can take them with you wherever you go, and they usually take less time to create than
traditional physical vision boards.
Below are the steps for creating your board:

Set aside at least an hour to work on your vision board. Create a relaxing atmosphere in your home,
office, or other location where you can concentrate on yourself for a while. You may decide to turn
on some inspiring or upbeat music or light a few candles.

Pray for God’s direction before working on your board. What is His vision for your life? Ask Him.
He handcrafted you, and He has great plans for you – plans to prosper you, give you hope and a
future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Wait for His response. Where God guides, He provides. When God births your vision, He is happy
to direct your steps. He will show up all over your board.

Write down what He shares with you. He may offer direction in your relationship with Him, your
family, friends, career, finances, home, travel, personal growth (spirituality, social life, education),
health, and other goals. He may give you a word or several words to focus on for a period of time.
The possibilities are endless. His guidance will always uplift and inspire you and expand your vision.

Cut out pictures or words in magazines, and/or find or print items online that match God’s words
for you and that resonate in your heart. You will most likely see a theme in your images. You will
also be amazed at how things start popping up all over the place once God’s intentions for your life
are clear.

Lay out all your pictures on your board before you start gluing or pinning them so you can determine
where you want everything. You may decide to leave space between pictures or overlap them.

There are no rules. Have fun with it!

Present your board to one or more discerning individuals who can offer positive and constructive
feedback on your images. Share with them why you placed your pictures on the board. They can
pray with you for God to bring His vision for your life to pass. THIS IS MY EXPERTISE.

How to Use Your Completed Vision Board
Your vision board is complete – a tangible representation of
where God is taking you.
Some recommend that you store your vision board away, forget
about it, and then look at it a year later to see what has come to pass.
Others suggest using it as decoration.
However, vision boards are most effective when we interact with
them on a daily basis.
Here are some tips for getting the maximum benefit from your
vision board:

SEE IT: Keep your vision board in a place where you can see it often each day, such as your bedroom
wall, office desk, or refrigerator door. You may even decide to take a picture of it and place it on your
computer screen, cell phone, or tablet. The thoughts and images that you begin and end each day
with will help pull you toward the future you desire. The time you spend looking at your vision board
at night is particularly powerful. The last images in your mind before you sleep repeat themselves
in your subconscious mind throughout the night.
Seeing your vision, or visualization, also activates the creative powers of your subconscious mind
and programs your brain to notice available resources that were always there but previously escaped
your notice.

SAY IT: Your words are powerful. You have what you say. Read the affirmations and inspirational
words on your board aloud each day.

SEIZE IT: Be inspired by it. Hold it in your hands and internalize the future it represents. See
yourself living this way. Visualize, affirm, believe, and internalize your goals each day. Believe it is
already yours. Remember, see it, say it, seize it!
Other Tips

THANK GOD FOR IT: As time goes by, and your dreams begin to come to pass, thank God for
His presence and work in your life. Gratitude is an act of abundance. Be grateful for the good that is
already happening in your life. Acknowledge the changes you see and feel. Keep the images that
have come to pass on your board. These are powerful visual reminders of your victories.

REFLECT ON IT: Write down the day you created your board. You will be shocked at how quickly
things happen as a result of your commitment, desires, and energy. This board will record your
personal journey, dreams, and achievements, much like a time capsule. You can reflect on your
maturity and expansion for years to come.

CREATE MORE: Create a new vision board each year. As you continue to mature and expand, so
will your dreams. Keep and cherish them.

Whether you look at it from a
spiritual or scientific aspect, this

Everything that’s here is because

own ideas to ourselves.

Personal Achievements
My 2015 vision board included a picture of a book signing. That year, I wrote, compiled, and signed
copies of the following books.
Career
In September 2015, I created the following career vision
board with all the qualities I wanted in my future job,
including versatility, freedom, creativity, adventure,
training in Excel, and opportunities to inspire, encourage,
and empower others. In February 2016, my role at World
Overcomers Church expanded to serving and supporting
six different ministry departments, including our pastoral,
finance, human resources, media, information center, and
outreach divisions. I also help train others to serve God.
I love my job and the versatility and freedom it affords.
Travel
I created a vision board in 2013 that outlined places I wanted to go. It included a picture of the
Sydney Opera House. In January 2017, I traveled with my sisters Sheronda and Allison and our friend
Meredith to Sydney, Australia to help my sister Allison prepare for school at Hillsong College .
I am living proof that vision boards work! It’s time to manifest God’s vision for you! Remember:
See It! Say It! Seize It!
