Military leadership involves making critical decisions, often in high-pressure situations with
consequential risks. Effective military leaders ask the right questions and think strategically in making
well-informed conclusions upon which that they can act. Military leaders also build and motivate
teams. Leadership is paramount to the success of any army. Leaders not only make life and death
decisions but directly control the climate and quality of life of their subordinates. Strong leadership
projects confidence. Military leaders carry weighty responsibilities. Doing the right thing, regardless of
the consequences, is moral courage. As role models, leaders must lead from the front and display
courage to motivate their soldiers. Teamwork is more important than personal recognition. A
competent leader preserves combat power by putting his soldiers first. A leader must show
determination even when others do not. Be strong of character do not accept anything but the best,
even during times of peace.
