What should your narrator sound like?
Step one
SLOWLY, eat one of your sour patch kids. Write a single paragraph from a first-person narrative in
which you are the main character. Within your paragraph, eat and describe this candy.

Step Two
Eat another candy. Write another narrative paragraph in the first person, but instead of the main
character being you, imagine yourself as a pediatric dentist.

Step Three
Eat the last candy. Choose a different perspective to write from, for example a person who is
reluctantly on a no-sugar diet, or a young child. Read your paragraph to someone and see if they can
accurately describe your narrator in the way that you envisioned them.
