CCSLP METHODS OF TEACHING, CURRICULUM APPROACH, AND ROLE OF TEACHERS from Nursery to Senior High School Nursery to Kindergarten METHODS OF TEACHING Technology Integrated Values Based Inquiry based Cooperative Learning CURRICULUM APPROACH Our curriculum is progressive based and values based as CSCLP believe that children learn best when they are actively involved and working side by side with others. That’s why hands-on, student-centered exploration is part of everything. Cooperative Learning - Encourage students of mixed abilities to work together by promoting small group or whole class activities. Inquiry-based instruction - Pose thought-provoking questions which inspire your students to think for themselves and become more independent learners. Differentiation - Differentiate your teaching by allocating tasks based on students’ abilities, to ensure no one gets left behind. Game-Based Learning - Game based learning (GBL) is a type of game play that has defined learning outcomes. Generally, game-based learning is designed to balance subject matter with gameplay and the ability of the player to retain and apply said subject matter to the real world. CURRICULUM APPROACH Our school believe that children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and accepted and where learning is fun. Primary (Grade 1-3) English Mathematics Filipino Science Araling Panlipunan Christian Living and Values Education Computer MAPEH Intermediate (Grade 4-5) English Mathematics Filipino Science Araling Panlipunan Christian Living and Values EducationComputer MAPEH Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) Behavioral Approach - This is an approach to psychology that focuses on how one's environment and how external stimuli affect a person's mental states and development and how these factors specifically "train" a person for the behaviors they will be exhibiting later on. Managerial Approach - the principal is the curriculum leader and at the same time instructional leader who is supposed to be the general manager. ..Curriculum managers look at curriculum changes and innovations as they administer the resources and restructure the schools. Systems approach – It is based on the generalization that everything is interrelated and interdependent. A system is composed of related and dependent element which when in interaction, forms a unitary whole. A system is simply an assemblage or combination of things or parts forming a complex whole. Humanistic Approach - It emphasizes the personal worth of the individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative, active nature of human beings. The approach is optimistic and focuses on the noble human capacity to overcome hardship, pain and despair. ROLE OF TEACHERS Resource - One of the top roles a teacher must fill is that of a resource specialist. There will be many people who will come to the teacher seeking information. Even if the person is only seeking a source of information, the teacher is the one who must know how to find what the student is looking for. Once the teacher has given the information to the student or coworker, he or she will often have to instruct the student on how to use the information. Support - Students are the ones who need support when learning a new skill or piece of information. A teacher must act as the support person when the student needs this help. Support can come in many forms such as a coach, leader and even a counselor. In professional circles, a teacher may even have to support other teachers leading a particular subject matter. Mentor - One of the biggest roles a teacher may have is that of a mentor. Students look up to teachers and may pattern their own behavior and work ethic to match the instructor. An older teacher can even be a mentor to a younger teacher who is just starting out in the profession. Helping hand - A leader in a school is a person who takes on extra tasks such as leading the PTA meetings and even helping set up a gym for a big event. Teachers who are active in the school will often have more jobs than just the one they were hired to perform. Often, the goals of the teacher will match the direction that the school is taking. Learner - One last important role a teacher must fill is that of a learner. Anyone who has been involved in a profession long enough knows that there is always something new to learn. A learner is a person who is always growing in life and will never claim that they know it all. A teacher will be challenged every day with a new task that will help them grow into a better person. A teacher is a person who will have to fill many roles. They are people with educational leadership skills and they must continue to grow and develop as professionals. Anyone seeking to be a teacher should take advantage of any chance they get to grow as a person and as a teacher. Junior High School METHODS OF TEACHING Teachers working with students in the Junior Secondary years will be given the skills they need through additional professional development, so they can support young teens through these crucial early high school years. The teaching staff of the school are experts in the subjects they teach and have very high levels of pedagogical knowledge and skill, including expert knowledge of evidence based teaching strategies. Teachers and school leaders take personal and collective responsibility for improving student learning, working as a team and learning from each other’s practices. In team meetings there is an emphasis on the joint analysis of student work and on teaching strategies for improving student learning. Teachers collaboratively plan, deliver and review the effectiveness of lessons. School leaders place a very high priority on the ongoing professional learning of all staff and on the development of a school-wide, self-reflective culture focused on improving classroom teaching. School leaders participate in professional learning activities, learning alongside teachers, and the school supports teachers to continue formal study and celebrates professional success. Differentiation is a priority of the school and a feature of every teacher’s practice. Regular data on the achievements, progress, strengths and weaknesses of individual students are used in all classrooms to make judgements about individual needs, to identify appropriate starting points for teaching and to personalize teaching and learning activities. CURRICULUM APPROACH Our school follow the K-12 Program. In which we applied and practiced: ENSURING INTEGRATED AND SEAMLESS LEARNING (SPIRAL PROGRESSION). Subjects are taught from the simplest concepts to more complicated concepts through grade levels in spiral progression. As early as elementary, students gain knowledge in areas such as Biology, Geometry, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Algebra. This ensures a mastery of knowledge and skills after each level. Biology, Chemistry, Physics are connected and integrated from Grades 7 to 10. This same method is used in other Learning Areas like Math. Also, we integrated teaching the Christian Living and Values Education twice a week. Grade 7-10 Filipino English Mathematics Science Araling Panlipunan Music Arts Physical Education Health Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Christian Living and Values Education ROLE OF TEACHERS Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or Araling Panlipunan. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs. Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks. SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL METHODS OF TEACHING Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Student-centered Approach o Personalized Learning o Inquiry-based Learning o Game-based Learning o Differentiated Instruction Teacher-centered Approach o Flipped Classroom CURRICULUM APPROACH SENIOR HIGH (GRADES 11-12) Senior High School is two years of specialized upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. Each student in Senior High School can choose among three tracks: Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts. The Academic track includes three strands: Business, Accountancy, Management (BAM); Humanities, Education, Social Sciences (HESS); and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM). CORE CURRICULUM SUBJECTS There are seven Learning Areas under the Core Curriculum: Languages, Literature, Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. As a delegator, the teacher may take an observer role to promote collaboration and encourage peer-topeer learning. Despite becoming increasingly popular, some critics consider the delegation or group style to be a poor teaching strategy given that it removes the teacher from a position of authority. The Facilitator Style Teachers who adopt a facilitator or activity-based style encourage self-learning in the classroom through increased peer to teacher learning. Unlike the lecture style, teachers ask students to question rather than simply have the answer given to them. In this style, activities are used to promote self-discovery and develop problem-solving skills, which can often lead to the student developing a much deeper understanding of the topic. There are however, downsides to this technique: as the facilitator, teachers must actively interact with individual pupils, which can be difficult in a large classroom setting, so the design layout of the room should be deeply considered. The Demonstrator Style Like the lecture or authority style of teaching, the demonstrator retains authority in the classroom. However, instead of relying solely on a verbal lecture, the demonstrator style combines lectures with other teaching forms, including multimedia presentations, demonstrations and class activities. This style is particularly well suited to music, art and physical education subjects, where demonstrations are required to fully understand a topic. In other areas of study however, the demonstrator style may not be suitable. Like the authority style, there is little direct teacher to pupil interaction, so it can be difficult to accommodate the needs of all students. The Hybrid Style Some teachers adopt an integrated teaching style that incorporates their personality, preferences and interests into their teaching. This strategy is known as the hybrid style, and is popular in subjects like English, Science and Religious Studies. Teachers who use the hybrid style are able to tailor their tutoring for different pupils, incorporating extra-curricular knowledge to develop a deeper knowledge of a particular topic. However, some critics claim that the hybrid style can weaken the learning process, as teachers try to be all things to all students.
