1. Label the steps of the carbon cycle using the diagram above.
1. Photosynthesis
2. Respiration
3. Feeding
4. Deposition
5. D e c o m p s i ti o n
6. Gas exchange
7. Burning fossil fuels
2. During photosynthesis plants take in carbon dioxide, and during
respiration humans release carbon dioxide.
3. What role do decomposers play in the carbon cycle?
Decomposers are the breakdown of dead animals and plants releasing
carbon into the soil and atmosphere.
4. What impact do humans have on the carbon cycle?
We are major contributors to the carbon cycle, releasing vehicle
emissions from the cars/trucks we drive, the Factory emissions, burning
land forests (slash and burn) to make room for farming.
5. Name 2 carbon sinks: Plants and Oceans .

Word Bank: and,
1. Label the steps of the nitrogen cycle using the diagram above.
1. N2
2. Nitrification Bacterial nitrogen fixation
3. NH3
4. NO2
5. NO3
6. Denitrification
2. Roughly 78 percent of the atmosphere is composed of
nitrogen gas.
3. Which organisms act as a bridge between the nitrogen in the
atmosphere and the nitrogen on land? Bacteria
4. Since humans need nitrogen but cannot get it from the air, we
instead get nitrogen from Plants and food.
5. Lightning combines nitrogen and oxygen in the air to form
Nitri oxide.
