Nutrition Project
Part 1 – (10 Points)
Students must log all food they eat for an entire week. Be sure to include amount of
exercise conducted for each day and also how much water is consumed each day. Note if
you eat anything organic. Log the information on your Daily Food Log.
Part 2 – (15 Points)
Students will be given computer lab time. Groups must create 20 note cards per group that
cover the following topics:
1. Obesity
2. Health problems related to obesity
3. Healthy food choices that teenagers can realistically utilize
4. Suggested calorie intake for a middle school teenager
5. The best healthy choices out of all the organic molecule groups
Part 3 – (35 Points)
Student groups must create a presentation to show the class their findings. All of the
facts collected on their note cards must be included in the presentation. Students must
also create a healthy eating guide for a week’s worth of food for the average teenage
student. Students are welcome to present their information in any form as long as it
covers the required information.
Part 4 – (5 Points)
Students must use their healthy eating guide created during Part 3 and make an attempt
to follow it for a week. Students are asked to complete a daily food log for a second week.
Part 5 – (35 Points)
Students must write a summary based on their experience. The summary should include
four body paragraphs, an intro, and a conclusion.
1. Body Paragraph 1 – How you felt during the week you were required to eat
healthier?
2. Body Paragraph 2 – Why you believe eating healthy made you feel better?
3. Body Paragraph 3 – How the food you ate fits into the four main organic food
groups and why it is so important to include all groups into your diet?
4. Body Paragraph 4 – Your overall experience in this project. (Likes, dislikes, etc.)
