Fetal Pig Dissection Check List:
Section 1:



What is the estimated gestation time of your

Find the umbilical cord, cut is about ½ inch
from the abdomen to see the vessels.

Section 2:



Check out the anatomical overview find the 2
nostrils, the snout, 2 cartilaginous ears.
Check out the pig’s skin and hair.
Use the scissors the cut a slit up the hind leg
from hip to knee, then cut horizontally at the top
and bottom of the slit, fold the skin back to
reveal the muscles and bone.
Section 3:


Tie the legs of the fetal pig out by making an X
shape with string on the bottom of your pan.
Make the capital I cut and lower cut shown in
the packet.


Explore the respiratory system near the head of
the fetal pig, use the diagram in your packet
from reference.
Explore the parts of the endocrine system in the
upper body, use diagram in packet as
reference.
Section 4:

Explore the digestive and lymphatic systems,
use the packet from reference.
Section 5:



Look for the kidneys, urinary bladder, and
ureters (you may have to take out other organs
to see these).
Explore the circulatory system and find the
heart.
Remove the heart and explore the artriums,
ventricles, and valves, refer to the packets
diagram
Make sure that you clean up your lab station and follow
any additional directions.
