Training Outline for COVID-19 Protocol Marshals
OBJECTIVE
As part of the strategy to minimize the spread of COVID-19 during the phased resumption of Track and
Field training and competition, the JAAA is requiring that all teams have a trained COVID-19 Marshal.
The COVID-19 Protocol Marshal is an additional Athlete Support Personnel whose responsibility is to
see to the enforcement of all COVID-19 Protocols within his/her team of athletes. The protocols are to
be followed at their training sessions, their journey to and from Competitions, and during Competitions.
The individual must be an adult and should not be the coach, manager or massage therapist.
Each Meet Organizer must also appoint a COVID-19 Compliance Officer. The Compliance Officer is to
have a team of persons who will assist him/her to make sure the meet complies with the JAAA Guide for
Meet Organizers in terms of ALL COVID-19 Protocols. The person should also be empowered to have
individuals removed from the venue if they fail to comply.
CURRICULUM (2 hours)
1. What is COVID-19? A brief description of the corona virus and the disease it causes.
2. Infection Methods. How does it spread
3. Infection Prevention Methods. What is known so far as how to protect yourself
4. The difference between Symptomatic and Asymptomatic person
5. COVID-19 Prevention Protocols explained
a. Hand Hygiene and its importance. Hand sanitizer vs Soap. What is the difference?
b. Mask wearing and its importance
c. Social Distancing and its importance and effectiveness
d. Isolation if you have any cold or flu symptoms
6. How to Keep your team safe from Infections
7. How athletes, coaches and team officials conduct themselves at the Competition
a. Stay away from other athletes and coaches including friends from other schools or
teams
b. Avoid crowds or gatherings
c. Be committed to practicing COVID-19 Prevention methods
d. No hugging or hand shaking. Elbow greetings?
8. COVID-19 Kit that the team should have and travel with
9. Full Contact list of all persons travelling with the team to competition. Name, telephone number
and possibly email address. For minors, the parents or guardian’s contact details should be
included.
COVID-19 Marshal for each team must be properly and clearly identifiable.
