MGANETS: INTRODUCTION
A magnet is a material or object that produces a
magnetic field.
This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible
for the most important property of a magnet.
i.e attraction or repulsion
HISTORY
The history of magnets begins with the first discoveries
of magnetic stones or lodestones – starting from
1845 this kind of stone was called magnetite. It is a
mostly black mineral of iron and oxygen, which
develops in a natural way by volcanic activity and has
its own magnetic property.
EARTH IS A MAGNET
Earth is a magnet. Like a bar magnet, Earth has north and south magnetic poles and a
magnetic field
.
The magnetic fields of Earth extend from the core to the surface of the planet, an area known
as the magnetosphere
The magnetic fields are possibly created by the rotation of
Earth's inner core and are strongest at the poles
The region that contains the earth’s magnetic field is called
the magnetosphere
EARTH’S MAGNETIC FIELD PROTECTING US
The magnetic field of the Earth plays a very important role in
our lives, it protects us from the solar winds.
These are currents of particles charged of energy emanated
from the sun which emit radiation.
The magnetosphere deflects the dangerous ultraviolet rays of
the sun, keeping us safe from any risk.
