What is Schering Bridge?
The Schering bridge is one type of AC bridge, which
is used to measure the unknown capacitance,
relative permeability, dissipation factor, and
dielectric loss of a capacitor.

Problem Satement
For a given Schering Bridge in fig. 2.2, the
parameters are as follows
𝑅4 = 470 𝜴
𝐢4 = 0.01π‘šπΉ
𝐢2 = 0.1π‘šπΉ
𝑅3 = 100𝐾𝜴
calculate the unknown resistance and
capacitance.

Solution
Formula for calculation of unknown capacitance
and resistance:
𝑅4
𝐢1 = 𝐢2
,
𝑅3
𝐢4
π‘Ÿ1 = 𝑅3
𝐢2
𝑅4
𝐢1 = 𝐢2
= 0.47𝝁𝑭
𝑅3
𝐢4
π‘Ÿ1 = 𝑅3
= 10π‘˜πœ΄

Procedure
οƒΌ Open the multisim simulation software tool.
οƒΌ Model the Schering bridge using the required
component by going to the place component after
right clicking on the workspace. (or by clicking ctrl+w)
οƒΌ Vary the resistance R4 and C4 to obtain zero current
through the multi-meter which has been set to
measure current.
οƒΌ These measurements can be used to obtain the values
of capacitor and resistor under study using the given
formula.
