Current Alaska Issue To: State of Alaska Office of Management and Budget Subject: Alaska Education Budget Cut and possible solutions To whom it may concerns, Thank you in advance for taking the time to read the letter of an Alaska residence. I am going to talk about an issue which would become a sensitive issue in future if it has not been taken care of or has taken any steps about it. The issue of Education budget is really concerning, and the real future of Alaska relies upon it. Educated populations are always an asset of a nation and a huge contributor to the economy as well. The present policies of cutting budget from many different places and a big cut in the education is an uncalculated move. If we have more graduate student, they would be a big help in future for developing the economy. The recession will fix itself and economy will get better with proper calculated actions not just by cutting budget. The budget cut would make many students to drop out or make them take a break. Student who have taken student loan they would be discouraged and won’t be able to continue. I believe there are two solutions that can be proposed. The plan is to use recession as a kind of spur to make fundamental changes that will better training for as many students as possible. University can many ways reduce waste. University can save money by reducing number of support staff not professors, replace expensive materials with less expensive. Tuition bills are being delivered electronically which will reduce staff and paper bills, reduce power waste, use computer science students to get any IT related work from all over the world; this will help big time to gain experience, engineering students can built and design for university or state which will save and bring money to the university fund. Lastly, the state can have conference, seminar to make the parents and citizens of Alaska know that the permanent dividend fund can be used for the education budget cut and how it will help build the future of their children. By doing that we would only sacrifice little happiness, but it would be an investment for the future and greater good. Education budget cut is just going to cripple the nation. To advance in technology and for better future we need to invest in our people by not cutting the education fund.
