Lesson 4 Natural Recourses: are materials found in nature that are used by livings things. Example… plants, water, sun light, wind, animals. Renewable Resources: are natural resources that can be replaced quickly. Conservation: the use of natural resources wisely. (be smart when use resources or they will not get renewed) Example: if we eat too much fish, there won’t be any fish left to reproduce and create more fish. Non-renewable resources: are natural resources that aren’t replaced easily or will take 1000, 1,000,000 years to replace them Example: oil, fossil fuels, natural gas and coal Note: oil is found deep underground and then is pumped and refined before it can be used. A mineral: is a non-living solid with a crystal form A ore: A rock that contains a valuable minerals What do we use land for? Mining Food production Dairy farms Green energy Forests are used for lumber Lumber is used to make paper and furniture Green energy or energy generated using renewable resources such as: Wind farms, Solar cells and hydroelectric dams. Fossil fuels: non-renewable energy such as coal, oil and natural gas Soil: non- renewable resource that people use to grow crops Mineral: non renewable resource non living solid with a crystal form and it takes a long time to form and once hey are all removed from a mine there are none left. A Rock: A non renewable resource solid substance made of one or more mineral and it takes a long time to form and once it have been moved from a mine they are none left Watershed: an important natural resource that is home to many living things
