What is deformation
It is the change in the shape of an object
due to forces
TYPES OF DEFORMATION
Plastic
The object does
not regain its shape
when the force
that acted on it is
removed
Elastic
The object regains
its original shape
when the force is
removed
Robert Hooke investigated elastic
deformation and came up with a law
What happens to a spring when you hang a load on it?
It stretches.
How does increase or decrease in the load affect the
stretching?
The more load you apply, the more the spring will stretch.
For any given spring, the stretching increases as the load hung
on it increases provided we have not put a load that will over
stretch it.
This called Hooke’s Law
