Comparative Case Study Ashley Ryan Why am I Gaining Weight PSY 1010 Virginia College Augusta Campus Regina Jennings October 10, 2017 Comparative Case Study: Why am I gaining more weight now that I’m in school vs. when I wasn’t in school? The purpose of this comparative study is to come up with a reasonable hypothesis to explain this occurrence. I will answer this question of why I am gaining weight now and reach a general conclusion to my problem. Problem: I am gaining weight because I am eating late at night, eating snacks, going to sleep after eating, and a lack of exercise. I now weigh one hundred and fifty pounds where I weighed one hundred thirty six pounds before I was in school. Hypothesis: I am gaining weight because I am eating later at night and eating more snacks than I was in school. When I wasn’t in school I got more exercise and didn’t eat late at night. Getting Started: I will research why I am gaining weight. I am not eating dinner until nine fifty at night or ten thirty on the nights I am going to school and am not getting as much exercise as before I was in school. Also before I was in school I ate dinner at seven thirty at night instead of nine fifty to ten thirty. It is so late I go to bed shortly after eating and it is too late to go for a walk or exercise. Before I was in school I had time in the evenings to go for a walk before it got dark. Analyzing the data: After researching some on why I am gaining weight now it would be because I am taking on too many calories before it has time to burn off. It is too late at night to go for a walk. I often eat out or pick some fast food up on the way home. I am not eating as healthy or low calorie as I was before. I have a sedentary lifestyle compared to before I was in school. Conclusion: I have learned that to have a slender figure I do not need to eat late at night right before bed often going to sleep right after eating. To lose the weight I would have to drastically cut the amount of food that I eat but I am hungry and tired after school. I am gaining weight because I am in School and my habits while in school are causing me to gain the weight. Late night eating and snacking is causing me to gain weight. The hypothesis is correct.
