AVID—Bound for Success AVID Interview Congratulations on receiving an interview to become part of Miller Junior High’s next group of AVID students! Before we welcome you into the AVID classroom we would like to talk to you about your goals. Please read below to prepare yourself for the interview. We can’t wait to talk to you! Written Interview Questions Answer the following questions before your interview. On a separate sheet of notebook paper. Write a rough draft first, then write a final copy. Write in complete sentences. Write in ink. 1. What makes you want to be a part of AVID? What do you feel AVID can do for you? 2. What can you contribute to the other students in the AVID program? 3. Give an example from your life of something you have had to work hard for or that challenged you. What did you learn from that experience? In order to be prepared for your oral interview, think about the following questions. You do not have to write a response to the questions below. What are your strengths as a student? What do you need to improve to become a better student? What areas of study do you think you will need extra support in to be successful? What classes are hard for you? What would your teachers say about your behavior in school? What would your friends say about your behavior? What are your plans for the future? Do they include college? Why do you want to go to college? Does your family support your desire to go to college? In AVID you will be expected to study more and take harder classes. What do you think will be expected of you if you join AVID? What kind of special help do you think you might need in the AVID program? Give an example of something you had to work hard at to improve. What do the word “self-discipline” mean to you? How will you react to a class where you know no one and you need help understanding the material? If you had a poor grade in a class, what steps would you take to improve?
