These villages are identical to those of the survey that ECONS had conducted in 2014 and 2016. However, about 20 new households was randomly drawn from each village based on their children attending the public primary school in the village. For that purpose, dRi collected list of students from grades 2-6 of each primary school in the 150 villages that contained student’s names, gender and their addresses. Surveys was conducted in 3,000 households in total. The selected sample was nationally representative and consisted of individuals who are either currently paying or eligible for paying income tax. This implies that, individuals, whose gross annual income exceeds the current tax-exempt threshold, was selected for sampling. The ‘Shishuder Jonno’ program has been working in Meherpur for last 9 years and the program has reached to the stage to initiate Phase-out from Meherpur district and phase in to a new rural Impact Area in Barisal district. “Shishuder Jonno” program has decided to work in three upazilas (sub-districts) in Barisal district, namely: Bakerganj, Muladi and Babuganj, and these three upazilas were defined as the new sponsorship program impact area. A comprehensive situational study was done in Barisal in September 2017. As the next step, we are planning to conduct a baseline study for the program in this new program impact area in Barisal. Name of assignment or project: Social Research for the Evaluation of UNHCR’S Response to the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh) Year: 2018 Location: Cox’sbazar Client: Lewis Sida, UK Main project features: The Rohingya refugee crisis has seen almost 700,000 people flee into Bangladesh since August of 2017, making it one of the largest refugee emergencies. Added to previous waves of people seeking sanctuary there are now some 858,898 people of Myanmar origin seeking protection in Bangladesh. The speed and scale at which people crossed the border also made the crisis one of bigger humanitarian emergencies of the decade, prompting UNHCR to declare it level 3. The role of UNHCR in the Rohingya crisis has not been its traditional one. UNHCR’s operational role to mitigate the crisis has got priority in its intervention. Followed by the role of UNHCR as a remedy for Rohingya response, dRi designed a forward looking prospective to evaluate the UNHCR’s responses to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The qualitative research has been conducted to understand the overall evaluation. The main goal of the research was to analyze the extent to which UNHCR is providing a timely and effective response to the refugee crisis unfolding in Bangladesh including identifying the enabling and constraining factors that are shaping the responses of the organization in this particular case.. The World Bank (WB) Poverty and Equity team developed a series of phone surveys to gain a rapid understanding of their knowledge of novel Coronavirus and protective behaviours, to collect information on three key shocks that the households may face of the time- health, labour and access to basic necessities and their prices, and how the households are coping with reduced income and work. Three rounds of data collection will be conducted using Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) software on households from slum and poor areas of Dhaka and Chittagong.
