Background
Landscape design is an important industry all around the world, especially in Florida.
Landscape designs can be seen just about anywhere you go. From your neighborhood to the
side of highways to amusement parks like Disney.
Directions
You will create a landscape design plan for your house or apartment building. Follow each step
below in order to complete the packet.
1. Survey
First, take a picture or draw a quick sketch of your house or apartment building and the existing
landscaping around it.
Insert the picture, or make your drawing, in the box below.
2. Principles of Design
Recall the principles of landscape design that we discussed during the “Six of One, Half Dozen of
the Other” activity. These were color, texture, form, and variety. Define and explain each
principle below as it relates to landscape design.

3. Draw your Landscape Design Plan
On the following page, you will draw your landscape design plan. Turn the page sideways so
that it is landscape orientation. Draw your home first, then add any trees, shrubs, plants, rock,
mulch, pathways, etc. that you like. Remember to consider the principles of design so that your
design is both functional and appealing. Be sure to color every part of your drawing.
