Introduction
1.1
Purpose
The purpose of this Best Practice is to provide guidelines for conducting a plant
survey and technical assessment for cathodic protection equipment and materials
commodities.
1.2
Scope
This Best Practice gives general guidelines for evaluating manufacturing plants
for Cathodic Protection equipment and material. This document contains plant
initial and technical assessments. Each assessment contains a desk review and a
plant survey. The initial assessment request is initiated by the Aramco Strategic
Sourcing.

Disclaimer
This Best Practice is being provided for the general guidance and benefit of
Saudi Aramco engineers evaluating cathodic protection equipment and materials
manufacturers/vendors. The use of the information or material contained herein
will not guarantee that the resulting product satisfies the applicable requirements
of Saudi Aramco Standards. Saudi Aramco assumes no responsibility or
liability whatsoever for any reliance on the information presented herein in
accordance with this Best Practice document. Moreover, this Best Practice is
intended only to provide guidelines for Saudi Aramco cathodic protection
engineers and shall not be considered as a replacement for the Mandatory Saudi

Plant Initial Assessment
The Plant Initial Assessment consist of a desk review and a plant survey. The desk
review is a pre-survey assessment of a designated cathodic protection equipment
commodity manufacturer’s plant. The reviewer should complete the below form based
on the documents provided by the supplier. As for the plant survey, the reviewer should
complete the below form based on the plant site visit.

Plant Technical Assessment
The Plant Technical Assessment consist of a desk review and a plant survey. The desk
review is a pre-survey plant assessment for a specific commodity in a designated
cathodic protection equipment manufacturer. The Cathodic Protection engineer should
complete the below form based on the documents provided by the supplier. As for the
plant survey, the Cathodic Protection engineer should complete the below form based
on the plant site visit. There are seven different commodities, the plant technical
assessment for each commodity is detailed on the following appendices.
