Welcome to 5th grade! You will complete this writing activity so others can learn about you! This
will be displayed in the hallway ALL YEAR with your selfies, so you want to make sure you put
your BEST effort into your writing so others walking by will be able to see what a good writer
you are! The following is a checklist of information you should include in your paper as well as
items to review while editing and revising. Please follow this format carefully and check off
each step as you go!

Paragraph 1: Introduce yourself
 Sentence 1: State your name along with a friendly greeting
For the remainder of the paragraph, include:
How you feel about 5th grade and how you feel about being in your teacher’s class
(make sure you spell their name correctly 😊)
Describe your appearance (include your hair and eye color)
Where were you born (what town) and when (your birthday)
Include an interesting fact about yourself
(Some ideas: Have you been to a different country? Can you speak a different language? etc.)

Paragraph 2: These are a few of my favorite things
Throughout this paragraph, be sure to use other synonyms (words that have the same meaning)
for the word favorite instead of repeating the same word in each sentence. Some examples
include: love, adore, prefer, etc.
Sentence 1: The first sentence of your new paragraph should be a transition sentence so
readers know what you will be discussing. Example: Over the years, there are many things that I
have grown to love.
For the remainder of the paragraph, include your:
Favorite color
Favorite subject in school (include why you like that subject)
Favorite season (what is something you love to do during that season)
Favorite food (Is it homemade? A family recipe? A dish from your favorite restaurant?)

Paragraph 3: What activities do you like to do?
Sentence 1: The first sentence of your new paragraph should be a transition sentence so readers know
what you will be discussing. Example: There are several activities that I enjoy.
For the remainder of the paragraph, include:
Your hobbies (How long have you done these activities?)
Sports you play/participate in (How long have you done these activities?)
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Do you collect anything? (optional)

Paragraph 4: Wrap up
What do you hope to achieve in 5th grade?
What are you looking forward to in 5th grade?
Once you are finished, be sure to review your work!
Editing/Revising:
 I have complete sentences throughout my paper
 I indented each new paragraph
 I used my best spelling and checked any words I was unsure of in a dictionary
 I used correct capitalization (names, towns, beginning of my sentences, etc.)
 I used correct punctuation
 I used correct grammar
 I had a classmate review my writing and provide feedback (Name: ______________)
 I reread my paper AT LEAST 3 times to make sure it makes sense!
 I used my best handwriting and TOOK MY TIME!
