For all of the questions below, in addition to the question asked, please specify what (if any) ideal gas law you
are using.
1. If the gas in a container of 1.25L at 2.00atm pressure is heated from 25 degrees Celsius to 200. degrees
Celsius, what will the new pressure be?
2. If a cube with side length 4.8 cm has a mass of 78 grams, will it float or sink in water? If it floats, what
percentage of the sphere will be above water?
3.
a. What pressure will 46.8 grams of Helium gas (O2) exert on a 12.5L container at -150.0 degrees
Celsius?
b. What happens to the pressure if the gas is heated to 0.5 degrees Celsius?
4.
a. What is the mass percent concentration of saltwater if you dissolve 45.2 grams of NaCl into
1.625L of water?
b. What is the molarity of the same solution?
5. The tires on a car need to be inflated between 2.5 atm and 4.0 atm of pressure to safely support a car.
A single tire is filled to 4.5atm of pressure with air on a hot summer day (temperature = 30 degrees
Celsius).
a. If you assume that the temperature changes immediately, at what temperature will the tire no
longer be safe?
b. Now assume that between that hot summer day and the cold of winter, 20% of the air will leak
out of the tire. At what temperature will the tire no longer be safe?
