UNIT 4 – Element 4 – Develop and Maintain individual and organisational competence in health
and safety matters. (R/616/9534)
STRENGTHS
I will start the practice of presenting safety
Moment before the start of any meeting is a
requirement as it is promulgated by the best
practices in the industry. I have previous
knowledge in such presentation. I will be making
safety moment presentation to be presented
before any meeting.
I will be codifying the safety conformance
requirements for a worker at site in the form of
safety guidelines. I will be making such a
guideline for the workers under me.
I will make RA for BAPCO workshop activities. I
am well versed with the making of RA.
I will make JSA for BAPCO on the job activity
Cable Termination. I am well versed in the making
of such JSA.
WEAKNESSES
I will do a gap analysis to migrate from OHSAS
1001 to ISO 45001. I will have to research and
prepare a gap analysis of the present IMS.
I will address the workforce on the safety
requirement at site. I will have to cover this verbal
communication in multi lingual platform. I am
weak in Bengali language. I will have to resort to
a translator.
I will make an internal training evaluation form in
which I have no previous knowledge. I will do
some research and take feedbacks from the
concerned to get the training evaluation made.
I will be making a Training matrix as required by
ISO standards. I have no previous knowledge in
the same. I will do the required research and take
inputs from all concerned to come out with an
appropriate training matrix.
I will make a procedure on Awareness, Education
and training. I have no previous knowledge on it. I
will do some research and come up with the
document.
OPPORTUNITIES
I will arrange a BAPCO trade test for a
subordinate HSE officer. By doing this I would be
able to understand the procedure for the same
and in turn I can also take the BAPCO approval in
future.
I will be making Job description for all the HSE
officers deployed under me. There are ministry
orders with respect to the duties of HSE officers.
In the process of making the job description I will
have the opportunity to get well verse with the law

I will contract TUV for third-Party trainings. But if
in case the firm is not ministry approved for the
identified course, I will be answerable. Si I will go
ahead and make sure that the course is ministry
approved before the finalisation of the contract.
I will schedule TUV (Approved third party)
training as a mandatory requirement for the
certification. If I don’t do it in time, I would be held
responsible. I will make necessary
communications to schedule the training.

I will be carrying out the appraisal of Mr. Vivek
Raghavan. This will give me the opportunity for
understanding the appraisal procedure of the
company and also would expose me into the HR
side of HSE management.
Its is the law of the land that any form of
disciplinary action initiated against any erring
individual has to be against a written schedule of
penalties to make it equal for everyone lest
anyone can proceed with it legally. I will make a
schedule of Penalties for the sites.

Advice for completing Reflective Commentaries on CPD Activities.
Think about a situation or incident which may have occurred in your organisation.
Reflect on how it links to one of the recorded CPD events you have completed and recorded in the
previous section.

negative).
Make sure you describe these and your opinions clearly.
This needs to be completed for CPD Events you have recorded in your CPD Record.
Please provide 2 pieces of evidence to support your reflective comment and what you have completed/
undertaken to develop your knowledge and practice in Health and Safety.
Reference evidence in your response from the workplace to support it. (minimum 2 pieces of workplace

Reflective Commentary on CPD Activity Entry - Unit 4 - Element 4 - Criteria B, D, E & F

As and when new projects are awarded to us and I have to deploy the team at site in accordance with
the HSE requirements one of the first thing that I have to undertake is to get everyone HSE aware. I
have to do this training in multi lingual platforms to ensure the ethics, equality and inclusiveness is
ensured. While arranging for the safety awareness talk at site for PS5 Alba project I ensured that the
verbal communication was made in as many languages as there were the workers speaking and also
ensured it catered for everybody’s assimilation level to ensure equality and inclusiveness.
Further when the project activities went on there were willingly omissions from the side of individual
personnel that I observed is happening. To thwart this trend, I had to take punitive actions on the erring
individuals. If I go about it in a haphazard manner then it can then slip up and tread into territories which
are illegal, against ethics, business code and equality. Therefore, I went ahead to formalise the punitive
actions by charting out schedule of Penalties such that it becomes binding on personnel in a manner
similar to all while ensuring ethics, business code and equality are catered for.
I started off with training evaluation to ensure that everyone understands the training topics and I am in
a position to get a feedback on the training effectiveness on a constant basis. This also gave a venue
for the workforce to air their feedback on the training offered thus making it all inclusive and effective. I
did some research and came up with a training evaluation form which I included it as a part of IMS
manual such that this particular form is used all across the site and thus is standardised. This made the

extraction of feedback from each form easy.
I started with codifying the safety guidelines to the workforce to remove all the confusion that they might
have by getting safety lessons from different sources like internal training, client, third party etc. So to
make things easy for them and to ensure same set of standards are promulgated for each one at site to
adhere to I reviewed all such documents and training materials and came out with the safety guidelines
for each person so that things became homogeneous and easy to follow. This ensured inclusiveness of
every person in contributing ton the safety standards at site.

STRENGTHS
I received my BAPCO Badge which is one of the
accomplishments in the field of Safety profession in
the kingdom of Bahrain.
I have now gained adequate expertise in making
procedures for Awareness and training.
WEAKNESSES
Time management for carrying out varied
responsibility is one of my weakness.
Resource planning for the task at hand is my
weakness.
I have got confidence in carrying out verbal
communication with the workforce at site,
