Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark survive on their journey west. She knew local edible
plants and helped the explorers find food in the forests. She was able to stay calm in
stressful situations. Plus, she and her baby made the group seem friendlier to the native
tribes they met along the way. For these reasons, Sacagawea was a very important
member of Lewis and Clark's group of explorers.
