Lesson 1
- Thorough revision on introduction to polymers and addition
polymerization (19.1+19.2)
- Students solve a pre prepared worksheet (made from Past paper
questions) in class
- Teacher discusses the answers in class
Lesson 2
- Explain the differences between condensation and addition
polymerisation
- Teacher introduces concepts of condensation polymerisation as
applicable to polyamides and polyesters.
- Understand that different polymers have different units and/or
different linkages
- Name some typical uses of plastics and of man-made fibres such as
nylon and Terylene
- Describe the pollution problems caused by non-biodegradable plastics
Lesson 1
- Revision of pre-requisite topics
- Topic discussion
Lesson 2
- Students discuss polymers they encounter on a day to day basis and
relate this to everyday items such as drinks containers, detergent
bottles and other household items as well as clothes.
- Students will look at the underneath of bottles to determine the
polymer and on clothing labels to find the fibres used.
- Teacher talks about Issues of disposal of polymers and their relative
biodegradability.
