Good morning students, today we are going to learn something interesting. I am more than happy
for you to be learning todays topic. Before I start today, May I know how are you doing today?
*****Wait for a while……
Today we will be learning on how to create an Impactful Speech. This is such a powerful way or tool
for you to create or deliver a speech that is impactful not only to yourselves but to the audience as
well.
So, if everyone is ready let’s get started by watching a video. In this video you will be seeing on of
the most powerful speech ever made globally. Its by none other than Martin Luther King with his
speech by the title of “I Have a Dream”.
****Finish watching the video
My first question dear students, do share with me on what do you think about the strength of the
speech by watching the video?

Students share their thoughts about the strength and impact of the speech
Teacher then explains what the video is about:
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the
Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to
millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a
joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
Next, students please find a pair to work with for the next activity. Once you have found your
partner kindly sit next to each other please. Now you are going to work with your partner to find
what are the techniques or skills used by Martin Luther King in delivering his speech.
For an example, look carefully at his eye contact when he delivers the speech, it is one of the main
reasons why the audience fall for his heartfelt speech.
Now I will give you about 5 minutes to discuss with your friends, please watch the videos and find
the skills and technique used by Martin Luther King. Once you have completed, please raise your
hand so that I am aware.
Now that all of you have completed the mind map, please take your tablet and browse on ways to
make your speeches more powerful and persuasive and please list at least 5 skills from your
research. I will now give you 3 minutes for you to list it down.
Next, I will choose one group to read out the list from your answers and the rest of the classroom
will compare the answers.
Going on, walk around with your partners to discuss your findings and give comment accordingly.
This is what we call as peer assessment. You will be sharing your comments with your peers.
I will be checking your work and approve your techniques and skill in order to write a persuasive
speech.
Now we have completed task one let’s move on to task two where will be editing our draft for the
speech.
Always remember the purpose of a persuasive speech is to convince your audience to agree with an
idea or opinion that you present. First, you'll need to choose a side on a controversial topic, then you
will write a speech to explain your position, and convince the audience to agree with you.
The introduction of your speech must be compelling because your audience will make up their minds
within a few minutes whether or not they are interested in your topic.
Before you write the full body, you should come up with a greeting. Your greeting can be as simple
as "Good morning everyone. My name is Frank."
Now I will give you 5 minutes to draft the writing. Teacher checks on students work.
Now please exchange your work and check whether the characteristics of persuasive matches the
draft.
Students will now share their answers.
Now before we end the lesson, lets list down three important characteristics of effective speech on a
sticky note.
Teacher then checks the list and dismiss the class.
