Summons Process
Directions:
1. You have been hired by Dev Johnson to act as his attorney. Dev would like to file a
complaint against your instructor for assigning him too much homework.
2. Using the Internet, find two example summons.
3. Research the jurisdiction in which you live and identify any special rules or
guidelines which could impact the summons you will be writing.
4. Based on your findings, develop a summons for your client Dev Johnson.

5. To complete the summons process elect or choose individuals in your class to
serve as the clerk, process server or sheriff as well as other roles which will be
needed to complete the process of serving the summons.
6. Participate with your class to ensure all summons are correctly processed and
delivered to the defendant.
