Public Presentation March 5, 2020 Passion Speech Reflection I demonstrated a commitment to the topic of getting to know people and culture when you travel because I have personally gained a lot of value from it. In terms of the requirements of the speech, I think the number of anecdotes I had in my speech was sufficient; however, I did not use much facts or statistics to support my perspective. I engaged the audience relatively well with the comprehensiveness of my perspective; however, I could have increased the comprehensiveness of this perspective by providing more vivid detail about the specific places that I have lived. It might have been difficult for the audience to understand exactly all the places that I have lived without me being clearer. I think my body supported my thoughts and statements quite effectively. To improve in this area, I could have considered making more deliberate gestures and thought about different types of physicality that would improve the overall delivery of the speech. I made decent eye contact, but my eye contact could have been dramatically improved if I did not move my eyes so frequently during the speech. I should have made eye contact with a person for around 2-3 seconds before moving around the rest of the room. I could also made a gradual shift around the room rather than having my eyes frequently dart around during the speech. My biggest area of possible improvement for the speech would likely be related to overall enthusiasm. Although my topic was something I was very interested in, I think I had a very conversational tone that could have been more passionate. I think the root cause of this was just overall nervousness and I think practicing the speech more before going in front of the audience would have helped with that. In addition, I think this class overall allows me to practice being uncomfortable in front of people which will also help with my nervousness during public speaking. This will help because then I can be more focused on what I am actually saying rather than worrying about messing up or sounding good in front of people. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this passion speech because it let me talk about something I enjoyed while giving me the chance to improve my public speaking skills.
