Materials/Notes
1. Field Trip to High School
Work with the high school AVID site coordinator to arrange a “shadow day” for your
AVID students.
 If your high school doesn’t have AVID, consider making arrangements through
the National Honor Society or other campus club.
Options for the “shadow day” include the following:
 Partnering a middle school AVID student with a high school student
 Having high school AVID students lead their partner on a school tour
 Having partners look through the middle school students’ six-year plan and give
advice on any specific classes or teachers
 Attending a class (AVID or non-AVID) together
 A group team-building activity
Consider having the middle school students and their high school partner become
“pen pals.”
2. Guest Speaker*
If you aren’t able to arrange a field trip to the high school on this exact day, try to
have a representative from the high school (counselor, administrator, AVID
coordinator, etc.) come to class as a guest speaker.
* Indicates an optional activity, which can be shortened or removed, based on time constraints
