Meteorological network of Sudan Sudan has long history in measuring meteorological parameters such rainfall, wind speed, wind direction, solar radiation, air temperature, air pressure, soil temperature, relative humidity ….etc. Khartoum station was established in 1901, while Gadarif and Wad Medani stations were established in 1904 and 1919, respectively. There are many meteorological stations in Sudan measure the meteorological data. Some of these stations are automatic and others are classical stations. There are other meteorological stations measure some meteorological variables. In addition, there are some meteorological stations for other organizations/ ministries used for research, experiments….etc. The meteorological network of Sudan consists of three types: • Surface observing stations • Sea observing stations • Weather profile stations The Surface observing network includes automatic and classical stations distributed across the country as shown in the below figure. Sudan Surface observing network As part of surface observing networks there are Agrometeorological stations measure soil temperature from 5cm to 400 cm, wind speed and direction at elevations from 5 cm to 10m and evaporation beside the other classical meteorogical data. For sea observing network, currently there is only on station in the Portsudan city in the red sea measures sea-surface temperature besides the other classical meteorological data. For weather profile network, currently there is only one station measures air temperature, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction and relative humidity at 950, 750,500,400,350,300,200,150 and 50 hPa Sudan Meteorological Authority (SMA) is responsible for the administration of all meteorological stations in Sudan. The website of SMA is http://www.ersad.gov.sd/index.php Name: Ageel Ibrahim Bushara Ahmed Country: Sudan
