Summary
Modern life is full of distractions, distractions come in waves
and some of them can have a negative effect on the ability
to concentrate when studying. The problem is that many
people especially students tend to underestimate how much
they are distracted by what’s going on around them. Such
types of multitasking activities are usually associated with
poorer studying performance.
Conclusion
Studying, like other professions, take preparation and
commitment. By understanding the factors that disrupt the
productivity, it can come up with healthier study habits that
will help the students succeed. Therefore, the researchers
conclude that if students work to find a focused mindset,
establish a study schedule, and choose the right place to
study, the students can cut out the distractions they have
control over and minimize the ones that can't stop them
completely.
Recommendation
Overall, these results suggest that using media when
studying should be limited due to the decrease in
performance when multitasking. One strategy to avoid the
negative effects of media multitasking is to take short
technology breaks during which students access the
internet, but then restrict its use for the rest of students
study period.
