Part 1: Photosynthesis Webquest
Overall Directions: You will be going to several different links to learn about photosynthesis. This is supposed
to be an individual learning activity, but if you get stuck, you can ask the person next to you or Ms. H.
You
are only permitted to go to the links below. This will be considered a lab grade and eventually
get taped into your notebook. If you fail to finish, you are responsible for finishing this on your own!
Directions: Go the following link.
https://biomanbio.com/GamesandLabs_old/PhotoRespgames/photointeractive.html
Click on the link “START NEW GAME”. Next, click on the link “LEAF ANATOMY”. Play the game and answer
the following questions:
1. In which organisms does photosynthesis take place?
2. What are the cells called that guard the opening to a leaf? What is the opening into the leaf called?
3. Which molecules are allowed to move in and out of the leaf?
4. Where does photosynthesis take place? Where do you think the chlorophyll pigment is found?
5. What are the green disks in the chloroplast called? What type of reactions takes place on them?
6.
What is the fluid that surrounds the green disks called? What reaction takes place in the fluid?
7. Is green light used in photosynthesis?
Directions: Go to the next link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/nature/photosynthesis.html Read the intro and
hit the “Launch interactive” button.
7. Where does the CO2 in the atmosphere come from? The O2.
8.
What happens to the water molecules in the light reactions? Be specific.
9.
What 6 carbon molecule you see (it’s not in its standard “ring” shape).
10. Can plants survive without O2? Explain.
Part 2: Photosynthesis Virtual Labs & Photosynthesis/Respiration Game
Lab 1
Directions: Go to this link: http://tinyurl.com/4soq36p. Read the side bar (to the left of the lab plants, use scroll
bar). BEFORE completing the lab simulation, watch the introduction video and write a hypothesis (“If, then,
because format”). Example hypothesis: “If I choose green light, the plant will grow because blah blah blah”.
Plant chosen for experiment: __________________________________
Hypothesis (if/then/because):
Data (what happened? Try several different colors to test).
Analysis/conclusion: Your explanation should be at least 5 sentences. (Hints: what does this tell you about
how light effects plants? What’s happening? What colors worked/didn’t work? Etc)
Photosynthesis Respiration Game!
Directions: Go to the next link:
https://biomanbio.com/GamesandLabs_old/PhotoRespgames/phorespgame.html
Play the game and answer the following questions:
1. Respiration is the process by which cells make __________!
2. What is cellular NRG?
3. Complete the following equation and label the molecular formulas.
___C6H12O6 + ___O2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ___ CO2 + ____H2O + ___ATP
_________
_________
________
________
4. What are the reactants in respiration?
What are the products?
5. Complete the following equation.
___CO2 + ___ H2O >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ___ C6H12O6 + ____O2
6. What do you notice about the two equations for respiration and photosynthesis?
