Descaling and disinfection procedure of Maquet ECMO Heater Unit (HU35)
Descaling process for HU35
- To be performed every 6 months
Emptying HU35
1. Switch the device off and disconnect the device from the power supply.
2. Disconnect the heat exchanger connected to the water circuit.
3. Disconnect the water tubes from HU35
4. Empty the water tubes.
5. Empty the HU35 unit. Tip HU35 backward to an angle of 90° to completely empty the tank.
6. Connect back the water tubes to HU35.
Descaling of HU35
7. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
8. Prepare a citric acid solution: put 30g of citric acid (1 spoon = 2g) into the canister. Add 1.5 liters of
(35°C) ‘water for injection’. Dissolve the citric acid by shaking.
9. Fill the citric acid solution to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
10. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
11. Set temperature to 38°C.
12. Run HU35 for 60 minutes.
13. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
14. Empty the tank completely.
Rinsing HU35
15. Disconnect the cleaning connector and disinfect it and the Hansen couplings.
16. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
17. Fill HU35 with ‘Water for Injection’ up to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
18. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
19. Set the temperature at 37°C and run HCU35 for 3 minutes.
20. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
21. Empty the tank completely.
22. Repeat step 17-21 for 2 times more.
23. Let the tank air dry.
Disinfection process for HU35
- To be performed every 7 days as well as after each use
Emptying HU35
1. Switch the device off and disconnect the device from the power supply.
2. Disconnect the heat exchanger connected to the water circuit.
3. Disconnect the water tubes from HU35
4. Empty the water tubes.
5. Empty the HU35 unit. Tip HU35 backward to an angle of 90° to completely empty the tank.
6. Connect back the water tubes to HU35.
Descaling of HU35
7. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
8. Prepare a Clorina solution: put 30g of Clorina (1spoon = 1g) into the canister. Add 1.5 liters of warm
(35°C) ‘water for injection’. Dissolve the Clorina by shaking.
9. Fill the Clorina solution to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
10. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
11. Set temperature to 38°C.
12. Run HU35 for 90 minutes.
13. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
14. Empty the tank completely.
Rinsing HU35
15. Disconnect the cleaning connector and disinfect it and the Hansen couplings.
16. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
17. Fill HU35 with ‘Water for Injection’ up to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
18. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
19. Set the temperature at 37°C and run HCU35 for 3 minutes.
20. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
21. Empty the tank completely.
22. Repeat step 17-21 for 2 times more.
23. Let the tank air dry.
High level disinfection and biofilm removal process for HU35
- To be perform if atypical Mycobacteria are present in the water system. This process requires 24 hours
contact time with Clorina.
Emptying HU35
1. Switch the device off and disconnect the device from the power supply.
2. Disconnect the heat exchanger connected to the water circuit.
3. Disconnect the water tubes from HU35
4. Empty the water tubes.
5. Empty the HU35 unit. Tip HU35 backward to an angle of 90° to completely empty the tank.
6. Connect back the water tubes to HU35.
Descaling of HU35
7. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
8. Prepare a Clorina solution: put 75g of Clorina (1spoon = 1g) into the canister. Add 1.5 liters of warm
(35°C) ‘water for injection’. Dissolve the Clorina by shaking.
9. Fill the Clorina solution to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
10. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
11. Set temperature to 38°C.
12. Run HU35 for 90 minutes.
13. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
14. Leave the solution to work for 24 hours in the water system.
15. Connect the device to the power supply and switch it on.
16. Run HU35 for 3 minutes at 35°C.
17. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
18. Empty the tank completely.
Rinsing HU35
19. Disconnect the cleaning connector and disinfect it and the Hansen couplings.
20. Connect the open hose ends to the cleaning connector.
21. Fill HU35 with ‘Water for Injection’ up to the maximum mark on the water level indicator.
22. Connect the device to the power supply and switch on the device.
23. Set the temperature at 37°C and run HCU35 for 3 minutes.
24. Switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains.
25. Empty the tank completely.
26. Repeat step 21-25 for 2 times more.
27. Let the tank air dry.
