(6) Process of Deposition of Sediments in the river of the District
There is no perennial river in the district. Four tributaries of river Luni,Sukri Lilri Bandi
and Jawai flow in there is no lake or natural spring in the district. There are number of big
and small tanks constructed for irrigation purpose. There are a number of other seasonal
rivulets and streams which traverse through the district. Dam in Bali tehsil has the largest
capacity while the smallest tank is Walar. Beside this tank there are five dames also in the
district. They are Jawi Raipur,Luni,Hemawas,Kharda and Biratiya Khurd damswhich are
used basically for irrigation purpose.
7.GENERAL PROFILE OF DISTRICT
The collector and district Magistrate is the executive head of the district administration .There are
10 subdivisions,10 tehsils and 10 panchayat samities. The Aravalli Range forms the eastern
boundary of the district and towards southern boundary it ends at Bamnera village in Sumerpur
Tehsil. A zone of foothills lies to the west, through which run the many tributaries of the Luni
River. The western portion of the district includes the alluvial plain of the Luni. It is bounded by
eight districts, Nagaur District to the north, Ajmer District to the northeast, Rajsamand District to
the east, Udaipur District to the southeast, Sirohi District to the southwest, Jalore
District and Barmer District to the west, and Jodhpur District to the northwest. The major part of the
district has elevations ranging from 200 to 300 m above MSL, but in the east toward the Aravalli
Range the elevation increases and the average is nearer 600 m and at some places the elevations
exceed 1000 m.
8.LAND UTILIZATION PATTERN IN THE DISTRICT : Forest,Agriculture ,Horticulture
,mining etc.
FOREST
The forest are scattered over a large area, mostly in hills and ridges. Those in plains are grass birds or
tree savants. The forests are generally open and poorly stocked except in forest blocks of Desuri range
and sadri range. The total forest area under the district is 963.58 Sq. KMs out of that 619.45 Sq. KMs
comes under the supervision of Dy. Chief Wild Life Warden, Udaipur. Total 817.37 Sq. KMs of the
forest area under reserve category and 143.70 Sq. KMs are under the protected category and remaining
2.51Sq. KMs are unclass. Forest area of the district is 7.77% of the total area of the district. The forest
resources are very meager. The requirements of the local people in respect of timber, firewood and other
forest produce have been increasing at a faster rate than the formation of the new forest.

9.PHYSIOGRAPHY
The district has undulating plains, scattered hills and a continuous district passing a cross SW-NE of
the district .Area may be called sub mountnaeous. The south eastern and north eastern part is
traversed by the Aravalli, ranges which is the most striking physiographic features of the
district. The highest peak of these hills is about 1100mts. to 500mts and slope is from east to west.
The soil of the district is sandy and water table is occurring at shallow depth. There is no perennial
river but four tributaries of Luni river namely Sukri ,Lilri ,Bandi and Jawai flow in the
district.Besides this there are seasonal nallas and streams which traverse through the area. There is
no natural lake but there are number of big and small tanks /dams constructed for irrigation
purposes.
10.RAINFALL(Month wise)
The climate of the district is on the whole dry and is very hot in summer and cold in winter. January
is the coldest month while May to early June is the hottest period of the year. Normal annual rainfall
in the district is 40 to 60 cms. During the south-west monsoon period humidity in general is high. In
the rest of the year the air is dry. The average humidity percentage for the district is nearly 60 to 70.
Rainfall is scanty, uncertainty, erratic and irregular and on average it is 47.22 cms/year and annual
rainy days are 22.
11.GEOLOGY AND MINERAL WEALTH
The geological formation of the district is represented by different igneous, sedimentary
and met sediment rocks. The Delhi Super Group rocks represented by the Ajabgarh Group
occur near the eastern border of the district and consists of schists, phyllite, marble and
basic volcanic. They are intruded by granites and rhyolites. The predominant of which is
the Erinpura Granite which cover the south and southeastern parts of the district. The
Jalore type of granites is exposed south of Pali town and is generally pink in colour. The
Marwar Super Group occurs in the northern part of the district and is represented by
limestone, dolomite, sandstone and shale. Geological configuration of Pali district is quite
complex. It is comprised of heterogeneous assemblage of different litho units of igneous,
sedimentary and metamorphic origin.

The oldest & prominent rock exposed along district belongs to Delhi supergroup
comprising southern, eastern and north eastern margin of the metamorphosed ferruginous
and massive clastics.
With subordinate chemogenic sediments and associated intrusive and extrusive phases.
Rocks of this Supergroup have been further classified in Kumbhalgarh, Sirohi & Punagarh
Groups.
The Delhi's are succeeded by a sequence of unmetamorphosed sedimentary rocks
comprised of sandstone, limestone, siltstone, gypsum beds, This Supergroup is further
divided into Jodhpur Group, Bilara Group & Nagaur Group.
The Delhi's are intruded by granites and rhyolite. The predominant is the Erinpura Granite.
Pali district is one of the few districts of Rajasthan possessing wide variety of both metallic and
non-metallic minerals. However ,commercial exploitation for metallic mineral has given
encouraging results.
Among non-metallic minerals, limestone, magnesite, calcite, quartz , felsper, china clay , ball clay
asbestos etc. are the mineral which being exploited for last so many years. cement grade limestone
of Ras belt has attracted many entrepreneurs for setting up of major cement plants recent discoveries
in the district include blockable granite , wollastonite ,scheelite , wolframite and indication of gold
mineralization. A brief description of each occurrence is given below.
Metallic Minerals:Base metals:- occurrences of base metals have been reported in chitar ,Nayakhera ,Kalabar
,Birantiya , Kantaliya ,Jaitpura , Bar , Sandarada ,Punagarh ,Sandela etc.
Chittar:- Department of mines & geology has investigated copper deposit near chittar 10 Km from
Sendra. A well developed gossan zone extends for about 2 kms stricke length with average width of
1.5 to 2.0 mts .it shows variegated shades of yellow brown ,maroon ,red and vermillion colours .
Department has proved 0.26 million tones of average 1% copper reserves in this area
Naya Khera :- A “L” shaped gossan body extends for about 800 mts . strike length with variable
width 1 to 15 mts. In delhi super group of rocks near naya khera about 18 kms from sendra . drilling
was carried out by the department in the year 1973-76 and proved .18 million tones reserves having
28% sulpher ,0.5% copper and 1.76% zinc. The mineralization mainly consist of pyrite with
subordinate amound of pyrrhotite , chalcopyrite , and sphalerite . the prppect may be worked for
sulpher and base metals like copper , zinc can be recovered as by products.
Biranthiya khurd:- on the basis of geological investinggation taken up by G.S.I. massive sulphide
mineralization hosted by felsic volcanic unit (quartz mica schist ) has been reported in this area .A
250 mts. Long lensoid ore zone has been established in the north block having small reserves of
44906 tonnes with an average grade of 4.6% cu , 5.15% pb and 10.6% zn. In south block ore bodies
are small and impersistant both in stricke and dip. Indications of gold have also been noticed in
north block. Samples have shown 150 to 1000 ppb of au.
Kalabar :- massive and stringer sulphide mineralization is found in kalabar area. The rock type are
assemblage of differentiated intermediate meta basic ( amphibolites ) chlorite scnist , calc granulite
etc. ancient mining is evidenced by gold working . slags and mine dumps occurring in echelon
pattern over cumulative strike lengths of 335 mts. Test drilling done by G.S.I. below the oxidized
zone has proved the presence of pyrite , pyrrhotite , sphelarite and chalcopyrite .besides zn and cu
significant value of Ag( 5-42 ppm), se (1-50 ppm ) Hg (245-4000 ppm ) and Au (63-177 ppm ) have
also been obtained . 1.25 million tonnes reserves of massive sulphide zone having 6.76% Zn and
0.39% Cu and 0.19 million tonnes of stringer sulphide zone having 0.66% Cu and 28% Zn have
been estimated between 400-285 M.R.L G.S.I is continuing investigation in this area.
Sandarada punagarh etc :- small occurrences of lead mineralization are observed near sandarda,
punagarh ,bijaji ka guda areas . mineralization is of disseminated and vein type and shows erratic
nature . air borne mineral survey division of G.S.I. has reported indications of base metal
mineralization in kantaliya area near sojat road.
Tungsten:-occurrences of scheelite have been reported from Bar-Babra area and these areas have
been explored by G.S.I. intermittent mineralization has been traced for 10 kms strike lengths in bar
area and 8 kms in babra area ,width varies from 2 to 10 mts. Scheelite mineralization in the skarns
shows wide variation in grade . exploratory drilling by G.S.I. has proved persistence of
mineralization down to 5 mtr. It has average grade of 0.2% Wo3 . scheelite mineralization has also
been reported by department near bar ,sendra , nana ,bera areas . the nana areas have been explored
by drilling and persistence of scheelite up to depth 132 mtr. Have been observing.
Occurrence of wolframite has been observed by G.S.I. near motiya-pipliya area near kurki.
Mineralization occurs as dissemination in quartz veins at the contact of sewariya granites with mica
schist of Delhi Super Group.
Beryl :- It is an important source of beryllium metal and also finds extensive use in atomic reactors.
It occurs in many pegmatite bodies of Raipur tehsil . Recently department has also discovered beryl
mineralization near Nadol in Desuri tehsil . It occurs as large crystals (15-30 cms ) and contain upto
13% .rate element have also been discovered during chemical analysis.
Non metallic minerals:The major deposits of non-metallic minerals being exploited in Pali district are limestone, Clay,
quartz-feldspar, dimensional stones (granite & marble), masonry stone & rhyolite. Details of these
minerals are as follows:Limestone :- limestone is one of the important minerals because of its use in cement, chemical,
metullargical, industries. Pali district has extensive limestone belonging to Delhi Super Group and
Marwar Super Group of rocks. Cement grade as well as chemical grade limestone are found in the
district. Major lime stone deposits are described below :
Ras limestone belt :- this deposit is located about 25 km west of Beawar and belongs to Delhi
Super Group. Earlier it was classified as railo formation. It extends from kurki in the NE to tunkramoriya in south-west . it occurs in form of paraller bends exposed in an area of about 36 sq.km . it is
crystalline in nature and occurs in the form of steep linear ridges. Limestone is cement grade to high
grade and at places is traversed by numerous pegmatite veins and calc-genisses .detailed
investigation in selected area of 90 hectares carried out by the department has proved 45 million
tones of cement grade limestone reseeves upto 15 mtr. Later on department indentified 5 blocks in
the belt each having more than 100 million tonnes reserves for major cement plant. According these
block were notified for grant of prospecting licence/mining lease. Two areas were granted to M/S
DLF cement plant in proximity to this deposite. One area has been granted to M/S Shree cement and
they have also carried out detailed exploration in their area. A few application are still under
consideration for P.L. in this belt.
Deoli Hulan-Guriya belt :- it is in the strike continuity of Ras belt and is exposed between Deoli
Hulan and Guriya villages having 9 kms lengths. About 100 million tones reserves of cement grade
limestone have been assessed on the basis of preliminary investigation carried out by the
department. This area was also applied by few companies for P.L. for setting up of major cement
plant.
Thandi Beri-Sirava Deposits :- this deposit is northen extension of amli-pindwara belt of sirohi
area. It belongs to Kumbhalgarh group of Delhi Super Group . this belt extends from Thandi Beri to
north of bharla village for about 9 kms lengths having average width of 2.7 kms northen part of this
beltis sillceous. Limestone around kakodara, kararavav, bhil colony contains cement grade and high
grade limestone.
About 8 million tonnes reserves have been inferred on the basis of department prospecting. This
area has been applied for P.L. by M/S Binani Cements. The nearby area in Sirohi district is already
under mining lease with this company and a major cement plant is already in operation near
Pindwara district Sirohi.
Sojat-Atbara-Rundia Deposit :-this deposite is a part of sojat-Gotan-Mundwa belt belonging to
Marwar Super Group of rocks. Limestone is extensively mined out and calcined around Mandla ,
Sojat ,Atbara ,Rundiya ,Sinla, Digrana ,Nimbol villages in Pali district. This deposit contains
cement grade, chemical grade and flux grade limestone associated with dolomitic limestone and
cherty limestone .the thickness of high grade band varies from 0.5 m to as much as 6 mtr.
Department has carried out prospecting near Sojat –Birala were proved ,while in rundia area 14
million tonnes reserves of limestone having 45% to 54% cao were proved. According to G.S.I. total
reserves in this belt are 64 million tonnes. Limestone of this belt is used as sweetner in making
cement , hydrated lime and is sent to many other industries.
Other Limestone Occurrences :- small intermittent bands of limestone are also noticed near ballpura,
west of naya Kheda, it is associated with calc silicates.
Intermittently exposed limestone banda of cement grade and siliceous nature are found between
bheru ka Bariya-kosana-nendana via biranthiya. It is crystalline in nature and has been tried for
Marble block mining. Few leases for marble exist in the area but as the rocks are highly fractured
block mining has not been successful. Limestone from these areas is being sent to shree cement
beawer. Recently a few leases of limestone have also been sanctioned in this belt.
(B) Another band of limestone is found near Ramgarh village in Raipur tehsil. It is cement to high
grade. Few leases for marble have been granted but most of the limestone which is crystalline in
nature is being supplied to cement factory at beawar.
Clays:- occurrences of china clay /ball clay are found in Litariya ,Kharadi , village in Jaitaran tehsil
scattered over more than 2 sq.km area. It is colour is grayish white and has fair degree of plasticity.
It has 32-34% Al2o3 , 0.06% to 1.5% fe2o3. It occurs ata depth of 10-15 mts. And it is grit and
sand . number of mining lease and prospecting licenses have been granted in this area. Mineral so
excavated is being sent to many manufactures outside Rajasthan for making clay bricks ,ceramic
and also inrubber ,paper industries clay extends upto Indawar, Luniyas ,Badagoan area of Nagaur
district.
Clay occurrences have also been reported from Jaitpura ,Shyamgarh ,area and also various parts
of Raipur ,Jaitran ,and Desuri tehsil.
Quartz-felsper :-these mineral have extensive use in ceramic ,glass ,enemal etc .industries. both
these minerals are found in pegmatites. Quartz venis containing off white to white quartz have also
been found in different parts of the district. The important localities where quartz/felsper are being
mined are samel, karpura, bhanwariya, paten , chang chittar ,sendra ,shyampura ,makarwali ,bar
,birantiya ,haripur , asan ,kalaliya ,bheo ,partapgarh ,kalakot ,nimaj ,bijaji ka guda , sardar samand ,
patriya ,phulad ,khemal ,nana ,sindru ,etc .the district is very rich in quartz/felsper deposits and most
of the area are sanctioned under ML/PL .the major part of these mineral produced is sent to beawar
which has become the leading trade center for these minerals . number of pulversing units are in
opration.
Decorative stone / Building stones :- building stones and decorative stone are reported from many
localities in pali district. Sandstone ,rhyolite ,siliceous limestone calageneiss are utilized for
masonary purposed .sandstone of masonary use are quarried near sojat city rhyolite suitable for chip
making and road ballast are found near Manihari, Punagarh, Bhakriwala gaon etc. Calc gneisses are
also being quarried for making ballast at few places. Slate & Shcist near Bar, Kanuja, Ballupura,
Girri, Biranthiya Khurd & Lawecha are being excabated and locally used as roofing stones.
Granite and Marble are the main two decoratibe stones which are being mined in Pali
district. With the implementation of new graite and marble plicies of the state new leases
particulatly of granite is granted in Kharda Ki Dhani Desuri, Khimel areas of Pali district.
Granite:- Granite of blockable nature occurs in large area of Pali district around NE(Bar,Sendra) &
southern part(Bali-Desuri-Sumerpur-Nana) of the district, it tis mainly Erinpura granite. Howeber
granite suitable for block mining are also found associated with Malani igneous suite near Kharda,
Kharda Ki Dhani, Dharamidhari, Jitra, Jawariya. The important potential areas have been
investigated by the department and granite plots have been delineated for leasing. Keeping in view
the overwhelming response from the entrepreneurs, search and delineation of granites is in progress
in different parts of Pali district.
Marble :- Search for marble in pali district. Began during 1960 when first deposite was explored at
Bheru ka Bariya near Bar. The marble of this district has veried colours and is figurative at places .
regional scanning for marble was done in different parts of the district which helped in locating
deposits near Nandana, Ramgarh, Hemadai, Bhilda, Balwantgarh, Gurha In Raipur and jaitaran
tehsils and near jedri, sindru,Diyana,Banki,Khiwandi,Siriyari,Anna,Kantaliya,Vinpura,Sarangwas
etc. in Bali, Desuri, and kharchi (Marwar Junction )
Most of the marble deposits of pali district are siliceous in nature . the variegated colour is
important due to presence of ferruginous contents, thin banda of the district. Colours is attractive but
the presence of irregular closely spaced fractures are creating problem in extracting big block and
accordingly marble industries in pali district has been severly affected .Except two, three localities
i.e Hemardai, Siriyari, Bhilda, in the most of the areas mining is being done for sending the
materials to cement industries. The crystalline limestone is suitable for cement manufacture.
Recently calcsilicate rocks which are hard, compact & occur as shaets have attracted few
entrepreneurs for its extraction as blocks as marble near village Asan and Samel in the district .
economic exploition of such rocks is yet to begain.
Rhyolite :- Rhyolite of pali district is mostly reddish brown ,grayish black in colour and is aphantic
as well as porphyritic. It is being worked near Medi Bhaker, Singhari ,Rohat and kharda ki Dhani ,
where 9 leases are in oprection. Besides , Rhyolite ,occurrences are reported from Punagarh,
Manihari, Bambolai, Gura Partap Singh , Bhakariwala Gaon etc. in pali tehsil. These can only be
utillised as road ballast or for chip making.
The minor occurrences of non metallic minerals are as follows:Asbestos :- This mineral mainly finds application in making cement pipes , sheet , fireproof
clothing etc. the asbestos deposits in pali district are located near sendra , mala ka guda , chhagri ki
bhagal , patariya ,goriya , kanotiya , ramgarh ,dhanbarli ,ballupura ,ranakpur ,shyampura ,alipura
,etc. most of the asbestos is termolite veriety but at place thin veins of chrysotile asbestos are also
found . mining of asbestos is known for many years in pali district . these days new mining leases
for asbestos are banded as per center government directives because it has been considred hazardous
mineral for mine & factory workers . the important occurrences are described below:Dhel Malaji Ka Guda:- asbestos occurs as thin veins with an average thickness of 13 cm. the
area has been extensively prospected and 130 tonnes reserves have been estimated upto depth of 1
mtr.
chariya ki bhaga patriya :- asbestos of tremolite veriety occurs in slip fibers veins . the vein
are short, irregular and discontinuous . the reserves have been estimated to be 6550 tonnes upto a
depth of 20 mtr.
Goriya :- Tremolite asbestos occurring here is generally a cross fiber type 265 tonnes of
reserves have been estimated upto 9 mtr. Depth.
Dhan Barli :- asbestos occurs as thin cross fiber veins having 2-3 cms thickness. The reserves
are 1,15,440 tonnes . a few thin criss-cross veins of chrysolite have also been observed.
In addition to these occurrences of asbestos have been reported from alipura ,shyampura ,patan
,sendra ,ballupura ,patriya and phulad etc.
Calcite :- calcite occurrences are located at bara guda,Budha Lalwa , Kalab ,Kapil ki Bhagel ,
Khemal ,Alipura, kharol ,Patan ,Dayalpura ,Nimaj ,Kurki ,Sardhana ,Patariya ,Sumel etc. These areas
mainly fall in Raipur ,Jaitaran and Bali tehsil. Most of these occurrences are pocket type deposit.
Garnet :- The mineral has been exploited in the past near devkhedi and karanpura villages of
Raipur tehsil .it is found in garnet –mica schist and is also in skarns associated with wollastonite,
epidote , quartz and calcite. It is found at number of places in Raipur and Kharachi tehsil . it is
mainly of abrasive quality.
Graphite :- Small occurrences of graphite are located near Bar railway station & desuri.
Preliminary investigation by the department have shown that it has very low carbon content (6-8%)
Gypsum :- it has been worked in part near khutani villages. Gypsum occurs in about 1 sq.km area
with an average thickness of about I mtr. It has been worked earlier by RSMM and few private
mines owner .
Magnesite :-the mineral is carbonate of magnesium occurring as hard white earthy lumps in
ultrabasic rock. When free from silica & iron it is highly valued for it’s refractory properties. Small
8 Magnesite occurrences are found near Koyalvav , Bhimana ,talao ,Charria ki bhagel ,bhilan
,Phulad ,Siriyari . it occurs as thin veins & stringers in ultrabasic rocks like peridotites , pyroximate
etc. there is one mining lease applied for P.L. A few small occurrences have also been noticed in
Desuri tehsil.
Mica :- occurrences of muscovite mica are found in pegmatites along with quartz ,felsper ,and
tourmaline in many parts of Raipur and Bali tehsils. But no workable deposits has been established.
Barytes :- small occurrences of barites are found in punagarh hill in the form of small veins. It has
off white to cream colour and grade is also low. Barytes have also been reported from Biranthia
khurd by G.S.I. it overlies the lenses of massive sulphides along the contect of quartz-mica schist
having intermittently exposed outcrops of about 280 mts. Strike lengts and 1 to 3 mts. Thickness it
is of low grade.
Soap Stone :- small occurrences of soapstone are reported from kanuja ,halwat ,shyampura
,khormal ,manpura ,kotri ,nandana ,kanotiya ,asan etc. these are six mining leases of shop stone in
the district.

exploited by private parties . red oxide and clays are also being found around jaitpura and
shyampura and have also been worked in past.
Wollastonite: - this mineral is mainly used in ceramics. It is also used in polymers, rubber, paints,
plastics, mineral wood etc. it has become important substitute of asbestos. Good qualities of
Wollastonite are found in belka pahar ,kheravparla areas of sirohi and Udaipur districts. These also
extend in pali district. It is being worked by M/S Wolkern India pvt.ltd. it is associated with calcite.
Both the mineral are being mined out.
Recently department has located low grade Wollastonite along the border of ajmer and pali
districts. Wollastonite bearing skarns containing 20% Wollastonite along with epidote ,garnet
,quartz ,calcite ,occur as detached bodies. These extend from pisangam-gola in ajmer district to
alipura ,rawaniya ,rampura ,gopalpura , karanpura , sodpura , ramawas etc. for more than 80 kms
strike length beneficiation studies conducted by IBM laboratory ,ajmer have indicated encouraging
results. Drilling conducted in three area of pali district namely Rawaniya , Rampura ,soupura and
Gopalpura has proved 79696 metric tonnes of Wollastonite.
Details of River: - There is no perennial river in the district. Four tributaries of River Luni viz;
Sukri, Lilri, Bandi and Jawai flow in the district. Besides, there are a number of other seasonal
rivulets and streams which traverse through the district. There is no lake or natrural spring in the
district. There are number of big and small tanks constructed for irrigation purposes. Of these, the
Jawai dam in Bali tehsil has the largest capacity while the smallest tank is Walar. Besides these
tanks, there are five dams also in the district. They are Jawai Raipur Luni, Hemawas, Kharda and
Biratiya Khurd dams which are used basically for irrigational purposes.
Luni
The river Luni originates near Ajmer in the western slopes of the Aravalli Range at an elevation of
about 550 m. About 495 km after the flow in a south-western of Rajasthan, it disappears in the
marshy land of Rann of Kutch. The total catchment area of the Luni River Basin in Rajasthan is
37,363 km², covering parts of the Districts of Ajmer, Pali,Jodhpur, Nagaur, Barmer, Jalore and
gujrat. in rajashtan 330 km and in gujrat 20 km.
Guhiya
Guhiya river originates near Khariyaniv and Tharasani villages in Pali District in the hillocks. It
merges with Bandi River near Phekariya village. The catchment is about 3,835 km², which is
situated in Pali district. Its tributaries are Raipur Luni, Radia Nadi, Guria Nadi, Lilri Nadi, Sukri and
Phunpharia Bala.
Khari (Hemawas)
River Khari is formed by the confluence of small streams namely Somesar (origination:
near Somesar village in the western slopes of the Aravali), Khari Kherwa, Umrawas Ka Nala
(origination: Near Bagol Kanklawas in the western slopes of the Aravali) and Kotki Nadi
(origination: Dewair Reserved Forest Bhakar, after flow of about 30 km). After joining of all these
small streams, the river is called Khari. After flowing for about 25 km, it joins Bandi River
downstream of Hemawas reservoir . Its catchment area is 1,232 km².
