CADET ACTIVITY INSTRUCTION FOR EXERCISE REMOTE SWEEP 2020
GENERAL
EX REMOTE SWEEP is a planning exercise in order to develop skills of writing orders and
military tactics.
The Exercise should build on the cadet's prior knowledge of field craft and leadership so that
they can create a workable and realistic scenario against a fictional enemy.
AIM
The aim of the exercise is to:
1. Test and develop cadets knowledge of fieldcraft and map skills
2. Test and develop cadets knowledge of orders writing and presenting (written and
remotely)
3. Test and develop cadets knowledge of model building and presentation (remotely)
SCENARIO
It is now April 20 and forces from the Republic of Zenek have mounted offensives
throughout the UK in response to continued arguments over trade routes. Zenek forces have
launched a para military attack on the UK and small pockets of enemy forces have been
identified in various locations.
The 2nd Battalion of the Zenek guards are thought to be in the Dartmoor area with a view of
taking control of the Okehampton range area and training camp. This is a key location for
the enemy as vital supplies can be cut off to the rest of the UK effectively cutting off the SW
region and placing several civilians in harms way.
Orders have been passed down to Taunton School CCF to move rapidly to the Okehampton
Camp in order to limit the movement of Zenek forces and remove them from the SW. 1
Company of Taunton Army section have been deployed. 3 platoons worth of cadets have
now arrived in Okehampton Camp and are awaiting orders.
MISSION
Your mission in 3 parts:
1. Locate the enemy and their strongholds
2. Disrupt any potential supply routes
3. Destroy any Zenek forces in the area
CONDUCT
Intelligence is coming through slowly and will arrive as the weeks pass. We now have a
rough area in which we think the enemy forces are located along with some of the supply
routes that they may be using.
Mission 1
Find and locate enemy positions and supply routes by mounting patrols and observation
posts in order for further intelligence to be gathered.
There is lots of undulating land in which to hide and observe from as shown on the map. You
will need to provide the commanding officer hereby known as the CO, Captain Michael
Turner, with your plans to recce proposed enemy positions.
Use the attached documents to help with your planning, recces and setting up of OP’s. With
enough intelligence we will be able to move onto disrupting the enemy and eventually
removing them from the SW area.
You need to open the following documents:
ANNEX A – Your patrol orders planning
ANNEX C – Map of possible enemy locations
ANNEX D – Map of enemy positions enlarged
ANNEX E – Map of enemy positions enlarged
Observation position tactics – Look for tactics to include in your planning
Patrolling and Recce tactics – Look for tactics to include in your planning
Your location is at Okehampton Camp designated by
