Unit I Reading HW Discussion Post Questions
Directions: Below are questions for discussion posts on Google Classroom. These are guidelines of things to think about.
You can answer some or all of them. If you feel passionate or interested in something you read, talk about it in your
post. Feel free to pose questions to other students. However whatever you discuss, you must have one initial post that
is 4 or more sentences and references something specific from the text [be sure to put the page number from the book
(p.97) when referencing it.] As well as at least 2 comments in response to other students posts/comments. Don’t just
repeat what other students say, this will not count. Be original and don’t wait till the last minute!!

How does the textbook portray/discuss the Renaissance, European Exploration, and Columbus? How does this compare
to information presented in Lies My Teacher Told Me? Give specific examples from each text. Why do you think
textbooks are like this? How does the knowledge of other “discoveries” of the New World besides Columbus’s impact
history and society?

How would you evaluate the textbook’s explanation of the Pilgrims and Puritans? In Lies My Teacher Told Me was the
information about Thanksgiving new and/or shocking to you? Why? Why is the truth about our past and history
important in today’s society? Should we celebrate Thanksgiving today?

 Ann Bradstreet Poetry and “Meditations” (p.265-266, 267-269, 272-281)
Write a two paragraph reflection (4-5 quality sentences per paragraph) answering the questions below. This is NOT done
on Google Classroom. This will need to be handed in on the due date.
 1st paragraph: What role does religion play in the life of Puritans like Ann Bradstreet and Mary Rowlandson? Think
about their ideas of predestination in their daily lives, their views of this world vs eternity, etc. Use specific
examples from the text in your explanation.
 2nd paragraph: What specific verses in Bradstreet’s poetry stood out to you or shocked you and why? What stood
out to you about Rowlandson’s account and why?
