Writing Prompts:
Directions: Choose a writing prompt from below and write a paragraph (610 sentences). Be sure to:
 Have a main idea
 Your purpose as the author to ENTERTAIN! (No Limitations)
 Use all types of sentence structures: Basic, all 3 compound types,
and both complex types of sentences.
 Use correct capitalization, end marks,
 Higher level vocabulary
 Use all types of the 8 parts of speech
Feel overwhelmed? Just free-write the story first; then go back and
check/add/change for what you do have.
Prompt options:
1. Congratulations! You just won 100 million dollars!!!! This sounds
great; the problem is you must spend it all within a week or you’ll
have to pay it all back. Explain how you do this. Which items do you
purchase? Where do you go? Who do you donate too?
2. Create a brand new holiday with its own traditions, rituals, foods, and
activities.
3. Tell this story: “Well, I thought it was going to be a regular summer
doing all our regular things…”
4. Tell this story: “There it was, finally. Our island. Our very own island.
It looked beautiful above the waves of fog, but there was still one
question to be answered: why had they sold it to us for only five
dollars?”
