Linton-Stockton High School Ms. Mackey 6th Grade Art Course description: Through this course, students will experience detailed explorations in the classics such as painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, graphic design, and crafts. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency working with a variety of mediums, students will learn about the art history, interpretation of art, art elements, principles of design and art techniques. Students will be guided to take these basic knowledge and critical thinking skills to constructively apply them to their own artwork, as well as, artwork of other. The students will produce artwork that shows the individuals’ creativity and problem solving ability. Classroom Rules: 1. Respect yourself and others. 2. Take care of ALL materials. Use tools and materials as demonstrated and have respect for all materials and the room, itself. ( You are responsible for cleaning your work area daily and making sure the art room is in order before leaving.) 3. Follow directions the first time they are given. 4. Observe all the rules in the student handbook. 5. Be in class on time, and be prepared with a pencil. Students who are tardy will receive a penalty. Once you enter the classroom gather your materials, take your seat and begin working. 6. After you have cleaned your area at the end of class, you are to remain seated until the bell rings. You must be in your assigned seats at the beginning and the end of each class period. Do NOT line up at the door, this will result in a penalty. 7. Gum is not permitted. 8. If you get done with an assignment early, you will have sketchbook assignments to complete. 9. No swearing or any other offensive language. 10. No crowding around the art desk. Students can approach my desk one at a time. 11.If absent, you are responsible to make up work. If a student chooses to break a rule, the following consequences will be imposed: 1. 1st Offense —Student receives a verbal warning, which will be noted in harmony. 2. 2nd Offense —Student receives a written warning. Student will be warned that on the next offense they will receive detention. 3. 3rd Offense —If a student receives a third penalty, they will be issued detention. If necessary, parents will be contacted. 4. Severe Disruption (harassment, fighting, causing harm or alarm to another student in any way, destruction of property, defiant behavior, etc.) Student will immediately be referred to the office. Bring the following items with you each day: 1. Portfolio folder (for notes, sketches, tests, etc.) 2. #2 Pencil, with eraser 3. Other items as needed for projects 4. Sketchbook Grading Scale A= 100-90% B= 89-80% C= 79-70% D= 69-60% F= below 60% Semester Grade Calculations Final semester grades will be figured as follows (based on percentages) 1st 9 weeks-42.5%, 2nd 9 weeks- 42.5%, class final- 15% Late Work Policy/Practice Late assignments will be accepted with a 20% deduction of the maximum possible points from the score earned up to seven calendar days prior to the final exam. Sketchbook: Students will be required to work on a sketchbook. Sketchbooks will be given periodically throughout the semester. Each sketch will have a theme, which will be given a week in advance. Students should spend at least an hour on a sketchbook. Students are required to keep all class notes, sketches, etc. in their sketchbook. Every two weeks, I will check your sketchbook progress. You will need to purchase a sketchbook and bring to class by August 13th.
