Global warming is real. (An illustration by Sheneman)
This is an illustration of Sheneman that highlights global warming which is a serious threat to our planet.
The character in the above illustration is in denial of existence of sun based upon his judgment of the
summer sky at the night time. The character also seems to be a narrow minded thinker and an extreme
believer in his sense of seeing rather than knowledge of science, as the moon is still lit but we know the
moon doesn’t creates its light. The same character is being witnessed in denial of global warming in
winters in the other part of illustration. Because according to him if the earth’s temperature is rising
then he must feel it. The narrow thinking of character is also represented in other part of illustration as
well because he is not judging the issue of global warming in long term, rather believing in what he’s
seeing.
Global warming is one of the emerging threats that our planet Earth is facing today. It is important to
come up with sustainable solutions and answers to our environmental problems to save the Earth’s
environment and make it livable for the upcoming generations of mankind. However there exist masses
that pertain global warming to be a hoax brought up by the modern day scientists. These people are just
like the character we witnessed in the illustration above. Unfortunately some of the prominent world
leaders with massive responsibilities also dig on the same direction. Earlier Pres.Trump has been
claiming climate change to be a hoax invented by China (WORLAND, 2019). On the other hand in Brazil
which hosts a huge part of Amazon forest also known as lungs of Earth is being cleared at a very fast
pace to create more cropland and no authorities seem to be interested in protecting the Amazon forest
(Bolsonaro shrugs off German aid cuts, as deforestation surges, 2019). This not only shows how serious
we are towards global warming but also how serious of an issue it becomes when even the world
leaders fall into denial of it.
Above illustration is a depiction of global warming not being as trivial issue as we see it today. It is also
highlighting mankind’s ignorance regarding environmental degradation that yields through man’s effort
(especially after industrial revolution) of making its life better and easier. Global warming has many
causes and mostly all the industries contribute to it however one of the major causes of global warming
is fossil fuel burning. Since industrial revolution fossil fuels have been requirement of every industry in
order to operate. One of the most famous fossil fuel in industrial sector today is crude oil. Crude oil is an
essential need of economies today vital for their survival; more vital to the developing economies.
Increase in global demand for crude oil would mean more emission of CO2 gasses that will further
contribute to global warming and environmental degradation.
Industries need crude oil and its byproducts for its production, cars need them to be driven on roads,
machineries need them in order to operate and for many more reasons crude oil has become one of the
number one demands since the man shifted from steam engines to much more efficient oil engines.
International demand for oil as per Monthly Oil Report Aug 2019 From OPEC is subjected at 99.92mb/d
which in the beginning of the year 2019 was 98.78mb/d. The oil prices have hiked to 54USD/b by Sep
2019. In Jan 2019 the price of oil was 47USD/b. The demand for oil in 2019 was projected at 98.78mb/d.
This data shows that despite of the increase in prices the demand for oil in international market has
increased.

This increase in price of oil might have resulted as the pertained gap in supply and demand of oil
globally. The total supply of oil in Jan 2019 was projected at 95.74mb/d where as in Sep 2019 the supply
of oil in global market was projected at 96.30mb/d.

From the both charts above we can conclude that even at a high price of 54usd/b the amount of oil
demanded in global market is 99.8mb/d where as only 96.3mb/d is supplied to the market. There exists
a shortage of 3.5mb/d in market which might be a role player in increase of oil prices in global market
Hence from all the data conclude that the demand for oil and it’s by products is increasing at a large
pace. It is time for mankind to substitute oil and its byproducts for a better and environment friendly
option.
