ECE3003 Microcontrollers and it’s Applications Fall Semester 2020 – 21 IR BASED TRAFFIC DENSITY DETECTION FACULTY:- Dr. SUMIT KUMAR JINDAL ABSTRACT: The project is a traffic signal controller system which reacts to traffic density. The time taken to modify the signals dynamically varies based on the traffic level. Well issues with traffic amount to a big challenge in many cities and often raise fuel usage and emissions. Traffic signals operating on fixed signal timing delays do not adjust to the changing traffic density. When the traffic density increase more than a limit at one particular side, it needs a longer green light duration to ease traffic flow. Our system uses the 8051 microcontroller. IR sensors are used for line of sight object detection using which the system gets an input of the traffic density. Traffic density is measured as “low, medium and high”. Based on this density reading the system adjusts and varies the traffic signal duration for that particular way.
