In Task 1, candidates are presented with a situation
and are asked to write a letter requesting
information or explaining the situation. The letter
may be personal, semi-formal or formal in style.
In Task 2, candidates are asked to write an essay in
response to a point of view, argument or problem.

Tips for IELTS Essay Writing
• Spend 40 minutes on this task ( including 3-4 minutes of planning)
• Read the question carefully and map out your ideas.
• Use your personal opinions/ examples.
• Use sufficient range of vocabulary.

and whether they are married or single. Some people say
that this information may be relevant and useful. Others
disagree.
