Biology is very challenging courses where students are required to investigate problems, learn more about the world around them and understand and use scientific explanations for a wide range of phenomena. Students develop research, collaboration and creative skills that will help with many aspects of their future learning and development. The course supports progression to a wide range of science subjects at Cambridge Upper Secondary. It develops learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. Students gain understanding of the basic of biology through a combination of theoretical and practical studies. Students also develop an understanding and skill needed in their future study should they wish to continue their study in Biology related course. It will be given upon completing each unit/subunit and will be given after a week notice. Assignment Assignment will be given each semester for group activity. Students are required to do investigation, presentation and demonstration for given topics. Class participation and Attendance Policy Students are expected to participate in learning activities such and be prepared for the lesson every day. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or give your opinion during the class discussion to practice on your communicating skill but also be considerate to classmates to create a good learning environment. All students are expected to be on time in every scheduled class and exception maybe made only for certain occasion such as emergencies and illness. Classroom Requirements Students and Parents/guardian need to read and sign a safety contract in order to participate in this class. Biology requires hands-on laboratory class. Students will be doing many laboratory activities that may require the use of chemicals, laboratory equipment, and other items which, if used incorrectly, can be hazardous. Plagiarism and Cheating Plagiarism is the practice of copying words, sentences, images, or ideas for use in written or oral assessments without giving proper credit to the source. Cheating is defined as the giving or receiving of illegal help on anything that has been determined by the teacher to be an individual effort. Plagiarism and cheating are considered as a violation of academic honesty and will be dealt seriously and may result in disciplinary action. For online learning, A combination of lecture, class discussion, presentations, videos (Blended Learning), cooperative learning, and problem-based learning will be used in this course. Educational tools that will be used including but not limited to Google Classroom, Edpuzzle, Google Sites, Eduflip.id/biology, Zoom meeting, Etc.
