Freshman Health Mrs. Robbins Room 02 leslie.robbins@vincentianacademy.org Google Classroom Code: p4on9k Introduction: The freshman health course meets every other day for one quarter and results in ¼ credit. Supplies: Each student should provide their own 1-inch 3-ring binder with loose-leaf notepaper, and a writing utensil (pencil, blue or black ink pen). These should be brought to class every day. Assessment: Grading will be based on in class assignments and activities, and quizzes. Late Policy: All assignments should be completed in class and therefore should not be late. Assignments that are not completed in class will be due at the start of the following class meeting. If an assignment is not turned in at the start of the period it will be penalized 50% of the possible points. Assignments turned in more than one day late will be penalized 75%. Assignments more than two days latewill not be accepted for points. Absences: When a student is absent, it is his or her responsibility to see the teacher the day of his or her return to school. The student must schedule time to make up any work missed. Exceptions will be made for extended absences. If a student will miss a class or part of a class due to a preplanned sports event, field trip, appointment or vacation he or she must notify Mrs. Robbins in advance to make plans to make up missed work and to take any scheduled tests in advance. Academic Honesty: As members of Vincentian Academy, all students are expected to follow and uphold the Vincentian Academy Honor Code. All instances of academic dishonesty will be dealt with fully. Please refer to the school’s policy on cheating and academic dishonesty. The rules on cheating and academic dishonesty apply to all class assignments, activities, projects, tests or any other graded work. Behavior Expectations: Many of the topics in Health class are very personal. It should be remembered that many families are dealing with some of the health topics that will be discussed. Therefore, students are expected to treat each topic and each other with respect. Class rules include respect for each other, responsibility for oneself, coming to class prepared to learn, and avoiding interfering with others’ learning. Learning requires asking questions, asking for clarifications and sometimes saying, “I don’t understand.” Therefore, any behavior intended to embarrass or ridicule any members of the classroom is unacceptable. Topics of Study: The Science of Learning Healthy Body Systems Students should always: Come to class prepared to learn. Be respectful of yourself, your classmates and your teacher. Do not interfere with the learning of others. Specifics: Show up to class on time. A student is late if she or he is not in the room when the late bell starts to ring. Please use the bathroom between classes! Only one student may leave the room to use the restroom at a time. The student planner is a student’s hall pass. To leave the room a student must have her or his own planner. Students should not talk out loud unless directed by the teacher, or unless called on by the teacher. Treat the school and this classroom with respect. Do not put your feet up on chairs or write on desks, tables, chair, plants, etc. Do not leave garbage or scraps of paper on the tables, chairs, desks or floor. Chromebooks should remain closed unless directed by the teacher. Cell phones are not to be used or seen in the classroom. Resist sneaking a peek! If you are distracted by your cell phone Mrs. Robbins will remove that distraction by confiscating it for the remainder of the period. The only exception: IB Biology students are permitted to photograph their experimental set ups for lab reports. However, they should ask for permission before doing so. Headphones/earbuds are not permitted except when directed by the teacher to use for a class assignment. Our classroom is also a biology lab. Therefore, food and drink are not permitted in the room except on a few very rare special occasions. Do not work on an assignment for another class in Mrs. Robbins’ class. This includes cramming for a test in another class. You will be warned the first time. Mrs. Robbins also keeps track of those warnings. In the very rare instance that there is free time at the end of a period and all of your work is done, you may ask Mrs. Robbins for permission to work on an assignment for another class. Mrs. Robbins is a reasonable person. If there is a good reason why you are having difficulty following one of these rules please speak to her about it so a solution can be found. Mrs. Robbins can change or add to this list of rules at any time.
