Instructions for the Seventh Grade Bibliography Bell Ringer Questions PLEASE NOTE: These 36 Bibliography Bell Ringer Questions are to be used with seventh grade only. Each page is numbered from one (1) to thirty-six (36). One should be used each week of the school year. These can be made into transparencies, or you may email me at Beatrice.hopkins@cpsb.org, and I will send you an electronic copy. Then you can place these on your television screen or project them electronically for all the class to be able to view. The answers appear at the bottom of each page. Therefore, you must cover the answers until students have completed the assignment. ALL students must have access to the Bibliography Citation Sample located on the next page when completing this assignment. The object for citing sources is not to have students memorize the formulas for writing bibliographies. That would be impossible because there are many different formats available for citing sources in bibliographies. The goal of LEAP/iLEAP is to teach our students to use the format that is recommended for the specific work that is being cited. Therefore just as on LEAP/iLEAP, students will refer to this specific sample when answering these bell ringers. Notice that during the last six week period the format for the questions changes. The reason is that in the 8th grade students will have to be able to actually write a bibliography citation rather than make corrections on them. This activity should not take longer than approximately five (5) minutes. *** Special thanks to the Calcasieu Parish Middle School Librarians for their assistance in compiling these bibliography bell ringers. *** Models of Bibliography Entries The following five sample entries are based on formats from the Modern Language Association (MLA) Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.
